Rock chucker

If you do get the Rockchucker make sure you get the primer feed tubes (if they don't come in a kit). I've had mine for 30 years but only got the primer feed 5 years ago and I wish I had got it right from the start. It just makes that part of reloading much faster. TC

I've tried almost all the presses, and the most useless thing I bought was a kit. If you plan on just one or 2 rifle calibers, you'll be happy. Once you start pumping it out, you may as well have skipped the start up kit garbage and bought what you like. Don't take me wrong, none of its bad stuff, but you way as well get good stuff now and skip spending the extra money later. It's like buying dies. You're going to try a Hornady or Lee or RCBS die.... But you'll eventually get a Redding. So just buy the Redding.

Also from trying the presses, and having owned a Hornady Single stage, a Rockchucker and now a Lee Classic Cast, I would just buy the Lee. 125 bucks through Budget at the top or Cabelas. You get a much bigger opening, and once you load the big stuff, you'll appreciate that (my .338 Lapua was just frustrating to load on the Rockchucker), plus you get a much bigger ram, plus you have the ability to load the big point five oh if you like. Plus the primer catcher is waaaaay better designed, plus the 3 point mounting is more stable. Look at the reviews at Cabelas.ca or lots of other places. Lots of similar sentiment.

I'm not saying the Chucker is a bad press. In fact it's excellent. It's just that someone is now building a better one, with more options for cheaper. Just don't get the Breech Lock Classic Cast, get the plain Classic Cast. 2 different monsters.
Wow! A breath of fresh air.

OP, I have ALL of Lee's presses and a Rock Chucker. Side by side, the RockChucker is a much beefier press than either of Lee's economy presses. And EVERY comparison of any other press is compared to these specific presses. NOONE compares any of the presses to Lee's Classic Cast presses, because there is none! The Classic Cast single stage blows the RockChucker out of the water! I'll take a side-by-side picture tomorrow and post them.

I've been watching youtube vids of both the lee and the RCBS. There's 100x more vids about the lee pro, a little harder to find ones about the classic cast, but it does look pretty good. Can't argue the price... How is the priming operation on the lee?

"Lock-n-Load bushing conversion kit" ! If I were buying a new SS press, I'd get one that would accept this conversion. Sooner rather than later, new Reloaders begin looking for ways to pick up the pace. This inexpensive conversion will do that for you. Basically your new press should have a threaded reducer bushing in it. This is what you remove in order to thread in the conversion bushing. "Inexpensive & not complicated". I have converted my Redding SS press to the LnL system,,,love it.

I did see this for the RC, and I do have to agree that's a great time saver (drop in instead of thread in). I watched one vid with the LEE that said there is a similar version but from LEE, the SS press comes with one bushing, you have to get more, so not sure if they would allow the competition to make something that would fit.

If you prime on the press, it is on the downstroke. A primer is loaded into the appropriate cup on the priming lever. It is then rotated into the press ram, lower the resized and de-primed case until the primer seats in the bottom of the primer pocket. Raise it a bit, and the spring loaded lever, pops out. You can now remove the case for charging and set up for the next step, seating.

I much prefer priming by hand with the RCBS Universal priming tool. I find that it's just as fast overall, but I have much better feel, than if I prime with the press.

It's a fine single stage. I'd only buy a Dillon if you wanted to load a large volume of pistol ammunition. The RC is a good choice if you are looking for precision rifle reloads. The kit is just fine. I'd only buy a press if you wanted to go directly to an electronic scale or got a lot of accessories at a discount.

I puilled the trigger on a Lee classic cast. I mean you can't really argue for $125. Wife will be pissed, but as someone said, there will be a LOT of extras I will need. I only ordered a universal primer remover and a couple of shell holders. At least that way I can get the primers out of my spent rounds, and get them polished up. For now I'll just stock up on brass the old fashioned way :)

So where's a good place to find dies? My local store was absolutely terrible "oh we can order that in". (You don't keep a 9mm OR a .223 OR a .45 acp die in stock? Really??)

I do like the reviews of the redding dies, although to be honest there were some good reviews of the lee dies too. I need something that will resize easily (I notice .45 acp tends to bulge the most), and be pretty bulletproof (haha). Where are you guys getting the redding dies?

I recently bought the RCBS RC deluxe kit and I have no regrets. It's way cheaper than buying a press and the other accessories seperately even when you pitch the lube pad and whatever. As far as dies go I am most impressed with the Lymann and RCBS dies. I have the Lee 45 ACP die set and it seems cheaper in comparision - it WAS cheaper! I have used the beam scale and the powder measure from the kit to load plenty of pistol rounds and I honestly don't see the need for a digital scale/dispenser any time soon. Reloading is very interesting and enjoyable and I can see that the investment in tools will soon pay for itself.

I did like the look of the kit, but then I figured for now I'll be buying ammo (and building a stock of brass!), so it gives me time to get a powder measure I'll be comfortable with, a scale that is really reliable etc etc. Dies however I have to pick fairly carefully, I don't want to buy 2 or 3 sets of the same die. A lot of people like the RCBS dies, a few really seem to like the lee, but dillon and redding always keep coming up as top picks, so when I do decide on dies, I'll set the wife out to get them :)

I would get dies from Sinclair, I have the RCBS powder throw and it works great (reasonably accurate as well). I like balance beam scales since they are inherently more accurate then digital (RCBS 5-0-5 or 10-10).

HI; I would look at Tightgroup for pistol powder. Rockchucker look for a CASE KICKER by RCBS. it has been out of production for years but is worth the 25 dollars to find one at a gun show. The fun is wheeling and dealing ,Haggling at gun shows or at the clubs good deal can be had.

Yeah a lot of people swear by a good balance scale unless I want to spend $$$$ on a top of the line digital (which I don't need for recreational shooting). Thanks for the tip on the dies. :)

It's funny, I've been to a couple of ranges lately, and there definitely is a different set of people... In a short time I have met some of the nicest people I have ever met, and one of the biggest weirdos too. lol. Already cut a deal for an AR, but STILL waiting on my PAL... Calling the ministry hasn't really helped. All they say is "it's approved". Argh.

I have to say though, some of the chinese import arms are incredible deals, even compared to what I used to pay back when I had my FAC. The amount of information available is INCREDIBLE too, I don't have to get everything from GnA magazine :)

...and so it begins. First package to show up...stainless media. The tumbler is in transit (the only thing I had to order from the US), and lemi shine is evidently at Canadian Tire.

Lee Press is due to arrive Tues or Wed, and buddy just told me he picked up 240 rounds of .223 for $70 so the brass collection continues. I just have to fire a bunch of pesky bullets downrange first. It will be nice when the AR I'm putting them through is mine, and not just "mine when we can make the transfer".

First set of used brass through the tumbler, that thing works awesome.

Lee press is supposedly out for delivery. I ordered a decapping die so that I can get the primers out of the rest of the .45 and all the .223 I have collected. Starting to come together.
