As we are getting closer to deer season i have been reading more hunting related topics and one that has come up is the idea of cover scents. Most say don't use the deer urine or anything like that on yourself as you don't want the deer coming right at you and smelling your human scent, so you want to use something else to cover your scent.
This is where it gets scattered. Some suggest just using scent eliminators, some carbon clothing, rubber boots, and the list goes on, but one that kind of stuck out was the suggestion to use raccoon or fox or skunk urine as it's a natural smell and probably won't be regarded by the deer. I have also heard of people who will seal their hunting clothes with tree branches, leaves, apples, or whatever to make their clothes smell more "natural" and even to the point of some on farms who will leave their clothes out in the cow barn so they smell more natural.
Now i don't know what raccon or fox urine smells like, but i would assume that any small carnivorous animals would smell pretty much the same, and i just happen to have two small carnivorous furrballs that live in my apartment that im not allowed to get rid of and have a box of their sometimes very smelly leftovers that get scooped and thrown away every few days.
Now i'm not suggesting that anyone cover themselves in cat litter, but would it make sense to maybe store my hunting clothes in the same room? Would (assuming i can stand it) that smell absorb and displace our household people smells? Or would i just end up smelling like a human covered in cat pee?
Let me know what your thoughts are and if anyone has ever tried something similar, i feel like i may be on to something or that i may just end up smelling like cat piss, but let me know your thoughts.
