As we are getting closer to deer season i have been reading more hunting related topics and one that has come up is the idea of cover scents. Most say don't use the deer urine or anything like that on yourself as you don't want the deer coming right at you and smelling your human scent, so you want to use something else to cover your scent.
This is where it gets scattered. Some suggest just using scent eliminators, some carbon clothing, rubber boots, and the list goes on, but one that kind of stuck out was the suggestion to use raccoon or fox or skunk urine as it's a natural smell and probably won't be regarded by the deer. I have also heard of people who will seal their hunting clothes with tree branches, leaves, apples, or whatever to make their clothes smell more "natural" and even to the point of some on farms who will leave their clothes out in the cow barn so they smell more natural.
Now i don't know what raccon or fox urine smells like, but i would assume that any small carnivorous animals would smell pretty much the same, and i just happen to have two small carnivorous furrballs that live in my apartment that im not allowed to get rid of and have a box of their sometimes very smelly leftovers that get scooped and thrown away every few days.
Now i'm not suggesting that anyone cover themselves in cat litter, but would it make sense to maybe store my hunting clothes in the same room? Would (assuming i can stand it) that smell absorb and displace our household people smells? Or would i just end up smelling like a human covered in cat pee?

Let me know what your thoughts are and if anyone has ever tried something similar, i feel like i may be on to something or that i may just end up smelling like cat piss, but let me know your thoughts.

I have used red fox for years and I have literally stepped next to deer laying down because they could not smell me and they rely mostly on scent to warn them of danger. also had a coyote try and jump me cuz he thought I was fox lunch coming. a little bit of fox scent and always hunt into the wind and you will see way more game than you would otherwise.

Vanilla extract. Spray bottle, dilute half water, half extract.

This is what Ive read up on and thought would be a good idea. Never used it myself, so cant confirm nor deny its abilities.

Attractants may have some merit. Cover scents are a hoax. You cannot fool a deer's nose if it is paying attention to it. The only strategy you can rely on is to control where your scent goes.

I've heard of sealing your clothes in with a container of charcoal. I had the stuff lying around, so I perforated a clean 1 quart can, stuffed it full of charcoal and heaved everything into a sealed unit. It supposedly takes some of the odor out of the clothing.

I had the necessary materials to do it, so I figured it couldn't hurt my chances this year.

Think about that logic for a second. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Do you have the materials to paint yourself purple? Sacrifice a virgin chicken? Couldn't hurt your chances, could it?

See, it's silly logic.

I've found no scent is better then anything.

Cover scents can work against you too just like the sell of un natural scents on your clothing. Most hunters have the "More is better" idea and it just bits them in the long run.

The woods is natural , skunk smell ? alarm in my eyes , Fox don't run around and urinate all over, only in the odd place, which can raise a flag as well. To much cover scent can lead to over scenting and could be avoided by other aniamls. If you are hooked on cover scents a dab is better then a pour ! The only thing I do anymore is snap a fresh branch close to me if sitting or try to work the wind...

last year was my first year. no scents or cover ups other than the odd air biscuit, cheese slice, redneck mating call, barking spider, blow a nasty, you get the picture. 5 deer wondered into my field.
I have heard of hanging your t shirt out in the woods so the scent is always around for them to get used to.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "no". Making yourself smell like cat piss is not going to help you shoot more deer. Really? That stuff smells awful. Gag in your stand awful.

I usually use scent killers. Soap, body wash, spray and then an attractant of some sort. Not sure if this actually works since I use the wind as well, but, hey, gets me a shower before June...lol.

I wash my cloths with unscented soap. I then hang them out when it is raining and let them hang till they dry out the next sunny day. Smell nice and fresh after that.

I do use silver based non scented sprays on my undergarments in the arm pit and crotch area. Silver helps slow down the growth of odor causing bacteria.

When I go out in the field I use a bit of "Fresh Earth" scented spray for my boots. Works for me YMMV

You can also try throwing some cedar branches in the same container you keep your clothes in.
