Looking for duck hunting partner(s) with boat in/ near Ottawa ON

So you want a free guide... His spots I'm assuming... His dog to retrieve your birds... Will you be shooting his ammo? Will he clean the birds for you too? I think an offer will come in any minute... Hold your breath.

I actually know of a few hot spots,I've put in hours building a blind on one of them. My unfortuneate circumstances have left me without water bourne transportation. Asking if anyone would care to have a hunting partner seems not out of the question.
But if you want to be rude hoytcanon, don't let me stop you.

I'll say what I always say when these kind of questions come up... "get of your couch and go make some contacts." Go to shooting events, skeet/trap ranges, local dive hunting shops, gun shows, call hunters that you know and ask for referrals etc... Don't take ten seconds to post on CGN while on commercial break from "Big Bang Theory" and between mouthfuls of Corn Pops... ie. take responsibility for your circumstances.

Well hoytcanon, you have me figure completely wrong. I don't even have a TV (but thanks for the arm chair insult)
As for the local dive hunting shop, its staffed by a group of 20 something mall ninjas that sit arround stoking their tapco stocked sks's (guess who they attract? Not hunters)
The local skeet range is an old boys club of aging aristocratic skeet snobs that only shoot skeet for most of them and they are all unaproachable. Unless my gun cost more than theirs and my landrover was better too, I'm not likely to have any "friends" in them. I've met a few exceptions to this general rule but have been unable to foster a deep friendship.
The carp gunshow....LoL been there lately? There's more fishing crap than guns, and 90% of those are sportered Lee-enfields and $500 sks's with NC star tacticrap on them.
Shooting events.....LoL in Liberal central Ottawa? Never heard of any. I tried to organize a fundraiser skeet shoot through the local club...to which I no longer belong after the BS surrounding that non event.
As for CGN, well it might be the easiest way, and also most effective way to reach the largest crowd.

Hey Hoytcanon, Have you ever been to Capitol skeet and trap? Sounds like you'd fit right in.

Sounds like you have written everyone off and are sulking in your house feeling sorry for yourself... You are right, I would be completely comfortable with those "good ole' boys"... I would also be comfortable yakking it up with the young SKS crew... Are you sure that it is ALL those "others" who are elitist???

Good old Hoytcannon and his "elitist" comments!! f:P:

I believe you got the backward there, Spank... I believe I was speaking of anti-elitism... I have found friends and commrades in the strangest places and in the strangest, most unexpected of ways... The point was to get out there and connect... Does that sound like elitism?

Personally I didn't see anything wrong with the post - a guy looking for a hunting partner that has a boat- who knows what the OP might be supplying - maybe HE will clean all the birds and has his own hot spots. What better place to look for a hunting partner than a HUNTING forum on a GUN Forum?
Seems ok to me........

Yup I've pretty much written everyone off, mind you I've only met a few people in Ottawa. I CAN talk to these people, I just have no common ground or use for them as I find their interests dis interesting or morally aprehensable. And as far as not fitting in unless I sport a 5k trap gun whilst smoking real cuban cigars and make 6 figures, ya I'd consider that group elitist.
These guys come in, shoot, brag and leave, never seen them offer a helping hand to a noob.
There a couple of exceptions but as previously stated I have distanced myself from the lot for good reason.

I can't relate to your experience... Any sporting club I have been a part of over the past 40+ years has been full of helpful, friendly people who would give the shirt off their back, especially to help a new shooter... And everyone pitches in to make the club a better place... I have been to half a dozen charity shoots this season alone... Good friends, good shooting, good food... Good times. Keep talking about hunting... Anyone within earshot who is interested will make themselves known. My last trip to the range, I shot with a member from Morocco and his guest... The guest was shooting a Kriegoff K-80 custom gun (beautiful piece)... And he is a member of clubs in five countires, speaks six languages... Couldn't meet a nicer more down to earth fella... My son and I are taking the two of them for divers in Mid-November.

Nice to hear hyotcanon. I've not found such people around hear. I did meet a couple of friendly/helpfull guys at the skeet club but alass they were not the majority. Lots of people would show up there as members of their own ethnicity, and socialize with themselves only, others only with members of their own social standing. There were no charity events, no compatitions or team/legues. Just indeviduals and closed door groups.....after the aging president retired the place just got cold if you know what I mean. That pres was the glue that stuck them together.
As for talking to the guys at SAIL sports....for the most part they are clerks in a box store, not hunters,mil-surp collectors, competition shooters or the like.
It sure would be nice to find a friendly like minded indevidual around these parts.

Try the LeBaron's on Merivale whenever you are out that way... Pick up a box (or flat) of shells and strike up a conversation in the gun room...
