SAM Omega 6 .40 First Impressions/100 Round Review

id have the smith mill the middle support out of that as well, why have fibre optic if you are just going to cover half its length

not sure I follow....it's fiber optic, light runs along the lenght of the fibers, cutting the middle support out of the sight wouldn't do anything to make it brighter?

Fibre optic for sights gathers light along its length then "traps" that light inside and emits it at the end. So the more length you have exposed the more light your sight gathers and the brighter it will be, so cutting out the middle supports would give you more light gathering area (same idea as a shallower trench for it to sit in or the parabolic mirror under it like SVI makes)

Does any one have a picture with a full size 1911 (preferably STI) with the 10 round 40 cal tripp mag; how long do these extend past the grip? I want a 1911 single stack in 40 cal with 10 round mags that will fit into the ipsc "box" for standard class.

you need to order the tripp "system" mags, they are pre filled to fit in the box. of course, so many different frames and sights means you may need to do some extra to make sure it fits.

First time at the range tonight with mine. Stock mag would not feed reliably with a few different types of ammo. My best results (but still not 100%) were with the cheapo ACT .45 mags. Out of the ammo I took, plated Berry's 180's fed well and were accurate. I managed a rested 1.5" group at 15yd that I was unable to repeat . I've owned Norc's, Paras and STI's and I think these SAM pistols are a great value even at full price.

So let me get this straight, yourself and what seems to be everyone else who bought one of these pistols have yet to get it to run right, and you still think its a good deal???

Tripp 'system' mags are made to fit in the USPSA box which is just over 2mm bigger than the IPSC box (in the applicable dimension). They won't necessarily fit. Mine don't despite further attempts at modification. Caveat emptor!

Easy now Tango Delta Charlie - Mine runs well with a quality magazine. The one that it came with was junk - no big deal, $30 fix. No matter what I do to it though, it will never be a Glock 17.

Sorry, but I would be right pissed if the included NEW magazine doesn't work. I would be even more pissed if the gun doesn't work as others here have mentioned. If you pay for something and it doesn't work, you over paid. Even if the pistol were free I would be pissed if it didn't work. Would any of you pay for a steak dinner if the meat was raw and cold? Would you buy a new car with four flat tires and a broken window? This is really no different.

Don't be sorry - you're absolutely right - I overpaid by $29. Oh well, glad it was on sale for $200 off ($171 I guess). It should just work out of the box though as you say.

And yes I frequently pay good money for raw steak at dinner.

Would you buy a new car for $5k off list and be super pissed to have to replace a bad battery? Probably. I'm ok with it though.

The point I'm trying to make is that you don't pay for broken products, and yet it appears several here have. Its no surprise to some of us but its unacceptable nontheless.

There was a thread on here last year about buddy's brand new Les Baer that wouldn't run a full mag without jamming once or twice...and it was a .45.
I have 1000 rounds of 185TC loaded up in .45, I honestly didn't put much thought into the bullets as they were some clearance Berrys at a good price. They run fine in my S&W 645 which has a ramped barrel, choke enough in my STI non-ramped that I won't even use them in it anymore.
Point is, non-ramped 1911's can be fussy with anything other then ball. With .40s&w any of the cheap bulk ammo is TC and that is going to cause feeding issues in these guns. Load some round nose ball in these and I'm sure they will run 100%.

If anyone doesn't want their stock MEC-Gar mags that came with the gun let me know. Feeding problems with these guns are entirely mag related. The mag requires some modification but if you can't be bothered playing around with it I'll take a run at fixing it. Not interested in any that have been bent, spindles or mutilated but if it didn't work & you threw it in the junk box without beating on it I'm interested.

well quick update on this, I got my competition mags finally. Gun hasn't been to the smith yet but I'm going to see how it likes full mags of the longer ammo, when I but 5 or so in the crap mags before they fed fine so I'm curious to see if the feeding works better with longer ammo (that I'll be competing with anyways)

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of problems with the SAM Omega 6 9mm. I just ordered one now after reading this I am not sure I shouls have.

Not sure if this will help you or not but I bought a SAM military enhanced in 9mm a couple months ago and have about 2500 rounds through it will no problems. The factory mag spring is lighter than the two Kimber mags I bought but still works fine.

I have a 9mm Omega 6 and run flat point and round nose and the factory mag and have never any sort of problem. I am ordering a SAM Thunderbolt .45 soon.

well you got lucky, mine and my friends both wont run worth crap with factory ammo and factory mags.

.40 is a pain to get to work properly in a 1911 and I consider this a good platform for an IPSC gun (why I bought it) but wouldn't recommend it to anyone who just wanted a gun for plinking
