Ar-180b

Does anyone know why production stopped? Seems like a lot of money was to be made by the Armalite Inc if they continued producing them.

Not enough buyers, quite simply. The AR 15 and derivatives have proven to be much more popular with both civilian and military users, while perhaps the single most notable user of the AR 18 was the IRA.

Unlike in Canada where being NR made them extra attractive, in the US they competed head to head with ARs and offered no real benefits over them while generally being more expensive. In fact while the AR market has boomed and their accessory choices have multiplied exponentially, the accessory market for the 180B remained very limited. It just didn't offer enough over the AR to make it viable, at least not stateside.

Yup, sadly that's where it counts the most - stateside. Canada's gun buyer's market is just a drop in the bucket compared to the US market.

True...I guess the Canadian Market doesn't make for good profits in the big picture.

Isn't the US switching snipers to a new AR based system that will take .223 and .308 uppers?

Are you referring to the M110?

I thought the ones that Irunguns are bringing in are the California models with the barrel that makes it NR here?

Either way good on them to bring them in.
An aluminum lower for sure. Until then I baby mine when taking apart.
Blasty muzzle for sure!

California models or AWB era ones, they're both the same. After the US AWB ended, Armalite changed the main model so it had an 18 inch barrel with a thread on flash hider, which would make it restricted due to barrel length here. They continued making the original model with the integral muzzle brake for Canada and California, renaming it the AR180B-2. If it has the integral brake, and doesn't have the -2 suffix on it, it was made before the AWB ended.

Your next best bet is to look for an SU-16 and upgrade it, or to get a T97NSR. There are not too many "affordable" ish black rifles that are non-restricted..

I'm the resident AR180B guy. Love the gun, have a couple of them including a Sterling built AR180.

That being said, the AR180B is not, and never will be, a $1400 gun.
