Question about SKS storage

I like this thread. It's exciting!

I got some useful information, next time though I will make sure not to joke about the zombies coming or posting my shotgun pics that scare some people.... I have to learn not to attract the FUDDS

Oh and FYI I thought just the mention of "Zombies" indicated a level of joking, heck I even put a smiley face after the comment.... perhaps some think I was serious and waiting for the walkers LOL

Yeah you always have to be serious in the world, no room for levity

Sometimes I forget about FUDDS

Good day to you too

forget the fudds , and dont forget to store extra mags around the house.

would suc to run outa ammo in the kitchen with zombe's on your six.

Ammo can be stored anywhere , rules are not readly available so outside or inside your safe is good to go.

SHHHHH we wary wary quiet someone is listening to you joking about firearms and zombies here

Anyway I got the information I was looking for from some great people who don't take things so seriously or make wide assumptions

My SKS will remain closed while locked in my safe

Thanks for your input

"Why do you own a HD shotgun with a loaded shell caddie?"

I hate to take sides, but this sounds an AWFUL lot like the fudds at the LGS telling me, matter of factly, how there is no legitimate use for a handgun.

Repeat the Liberal mantra - Divide and conquer... Divide and conquer.

Exactly...

I know what FUDDS are but what are LGS? Long gun shooters?

Store it with the bolt closed and a Tapco 20/5 mag empty and inserted.
(modify Tapco mag lips to accept stripper clips)

Have stripper clips loaded and on hand,
Remove SKS from safe,
Pull the charge handle back,
Bolt hold will slide up and keep the carrier open,
Insert stripper clip and load mag,
Release charge handle to chamber first round.

This can be done in about 10 seconds.

If your magazine is loaded it should be stored separately from the rifle and locked at home.

Not if both are stored in a safe (vice a locker or cabinet).

And did I also see a loaded "home defense" shotgun?

No you did not. You just ASSumed it was.

Back to the topic, do not store any fire arms or magazines with the spring under tension. This is clearly stated in any fire arms manual and is a given with any military or police force.

Wrong again. NATO warstock magazines for M16/C7 et al are stored and packed fully loaded for years. As for rifles, both C7 and C1 were stored with the bolts/breech blocks removed for extra security, nothing to do with springs.
