What scope did you put on your M305?

I'm an iron sights shooter at heart, i struggle with optics.

Some say its because i haven't had enough time with them and its true. During basic, my C7's Elcan did the job fine but it didn't magnify all that much (3 times i think?) and i didn't stay in the forces long enough to get a ton of range time.

But now i've bought my M305 and altough i've yet to find a scope mount for it that isn't too expensive, and don't know enough to look at scopes at my local gun shop(s).

I bough this rifle as a gift to myself and to get back into shooting sports as well as hunting. Now the areas i hunt in are not very big. The area around the tree stand is between 100 and 200m so i don't need to be able to see a fly's as shole at 1000 yards :p

I have a 3x9 scope i use on my .22 but i heard that scopes made for rimfire don't handle the recoil of a bigger rifle very well thus i can't use it for that.

I am in the same boat as you. I shoot irons and red dot sights.

I recently mounted a Vortex Razor HD Gen II 1-6x24 on my Crazy Horse EBR.
The optic & reticle are geared towards 3-gun competition, but I like it for 0 to 600 yards.
The extra large eye box makes it less of a struggle for me to get comfortable behind it.
I have it mounted on a CASM-S from M14.ca

The rifle deserves more magnification and I may move in that direction, but only after I have mastered this one.

That looks nice but way out of my price range (looking for something around 250$).

And i see everyone and their moms using that m14.ca mount but i want one where i can still use the iron sights
 
Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 for me. Don't have experience with that many scopes but this one is less sensitive to exact eye positioning than most and the glass is very clear.
 
I would recommend a Redfield Revolution with the BDC reticle. Good clear glass, durable, lifetime warranty, tons of eye relief, under $300, looks cool.
 
Im running a Redfield 6-18x44 on a cheap and nasty Ncstar mount with no problems at all.
I still get to use the irons if I could see them, but those days are long gone lol.
 
Thank you all for the suggestions but i came to the realisation last night that... i have no idea HOW i should choose! Or whats best for my kind of shooting...

besides my price range bit.
 
Its best to get a good scope mount that will hold a zero with these rifles , arms 18, sadlak , smith etc .
The action on these are hard on cheap scopes and mounts
As for scopes bushnell 3200 10x with target turrets if its a range gun work well and they are in your price range.
Redfields are made by Leupold now and are a really good scope for the money and they have a lifetime warranty .
I have a Redfield mounted on a different rifle and the glass is a little better than the tactical other bush 3200 3x9 and burris fullfield I own.

I have mounted:

Bushnell 3200 10x40 mil-dot. This was an excellent scope for the money, and according to what I read on this board, it seems to be a popular choice for the M305/14s.

Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40. I loved this scope but no longer have it.

Right now, it's just a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. It's a nice scope, fairly inexpensive and has a generic BDC (if you could call it such). It holds zero no problem.

LOL I know how you feel. It took me about 8 weeks of umming and ahing before I commited.
I got married quicker :)
 
For your distances...all you need is a peep sight. Wait you already have one! Just shoot it with irons unless you want to make it into a bench rifle with the added weight.
Mines staying unscoped. IMO m305's look strange with scopes. Not as strange as Lever's do.....but I digress.
 
For anything under 200m i stick with a 3-9x40mm. Most of what i have are bushnells, a mix of elite 3200's, 4200, a few trophys and older series. I find sticking to the same magnification on the different guns helps as well because when i look through it, it always (withing reason) looks the same, i'm not expecting to be able to see every hair on a fleas back, but a reasonably clear image of what i am looking at.
Keep an eye on the EE, you can get a good 3-9 for under $200.

Sorry, I didn't know what your budget was. Also, the CASM does have a rear peep sight hole.
It's not perfect, but you can use the front iron sight in a pinch.
