What scope did you put on your M305?

Try Weaver steel mounts- they are not horribly expensive but have stood the test of time on my rifles and a pair are holding up fine on my Norc. I tried some cheap Sun Optics alloy rings that broke very quickly so back to my Weavers!

At 218.00 plus the works the ARMS 18 from Wolverines, is an OK deal, expensive but not cheap like chinese knock off that barely keep zero... JP.

I put a Redfield Battlezone scope 3x9x 42. Comes with bullet drop compensator and wind adjustment. Every click is 1/4 moa. Very happy with the results!

that may be so, but the ballistics between a 223 and 308 are almost identical so it's just fine, especially at effective stock M305 distances.

I learned something new today, now on the hunt for one :) only down thing is that it is labeled 223 on turret

but I think we should avoid using AR/223 scope on M14, not because of the ballistics but for the recoil..............

Gentlemen

I would like to share some of my own thoughts here, and your welcome to consider them, or discard them as you like.

My purpose here is not to intentionally talk about specific brands or models, but some attributes that you may want your optics package to have.

Mount
Here you want a sturdy solid mount, that will allow repeatable results. The M-14 is an older design, and was not designed with modern optics in mind. So getting a solid and repeatable mounting platform is actually more difficult than one would think. In the past, many accuracy issues with optics on the M-14 could be traced directly to the mount.

With the above in mind, I personally have settled on the CasM mount. It’s a well thought out mount that is solid and repeatable, and in my mind, one of the most important innovations of late for this platform.

True, its not cheap, and you do lose your rear sight. However sometime its simply not possible to everything you want in one package, and at times, compromises must be made. On the up side there is an emergency peep built in mount should the optic fail, so a shooter in the field, is not totally left with out a back up sight.

Optic Characteristics
In speaking with those in the DMR role, the consensus on optics is something in the 3-10x50mm or are 3-12x52 with a 30mm main tube. The idea behind this is to cram as much light as you can into the optic, and if you run a sun shade, it should be no longer than 3". They also recommend MLR reticles (reticles with Mil Lines as opposed to dots). This allows for more accurate range estimation and shot placement as lines are more definitive than dots.

Exposed turrets for windage and elevation adjustments are a must.

The choice of either Mil or MOA reticles, if not dictated, are really up to the shooter, but what ever chosen should compliment, or work with the rest of the gear. For example, the turret adjustment on the optic, should be in the same measure or system as the reticle, and the rifle reticle should also match that of the spotting scope. This makes calling and making correction adjustments quicker.

Reticle illumination, while not mandatary, can be very helpful in low light conditions where night visions optics may not be applicable, but in needs to be adjustable so one can adjust the intensity as required.

The above is what I have gleaned so far, and would be interested to hear any thoughts you all might have.

Regards

AbH

Are we to suppose that Bushnell is using some lighter scope components specifically for this scope than they use in every other scope they make in this price range? I'm thinkin no, they probably just added some target style turrets to a scope they were already making and added a BDC reticle to it - that's my bet anyway.

It might be a fair argument that M14s are known to be hard on scopes and maybe a guy should focus on $1000 tactical Leupolds or $1800 Nightforce for M14s - but my guess is that's cost prohibitive for most Nork shooters.
