From CSA: The reason for the broken bolts in the VZ58

The reason for some 7.62 bolts breaking is the same as the reason for some 5.56 bolts breaking and it has nothing to do with bolts themselves. Bolts are perfectly alright, we just had several batches of rifles with incorrect combination of the gas holes and pistons. In other words, gas holes were drilled too big and thus way too much energy is going into the bolt assembly after the bolt unlocks. There is an easy fix to that - swapping a piston for one with slightly smaller diameter.

So anyone whose bolt already broke, needs to request not only a bolt replacement, but needs to send his / her rifle to Movie Arms for an inspection, piston swap and test firing. I also strongly encourage anyone whose rifle is ejecting empty cases more than 4 - 5 meters away from the rifle to send the whole rifle to Movie Arms to have the same check and fix done.

While there is no reason for our Canadian clients to despair, because our 5 year warranty stands and we will also cover everyone´s shipping charges if you include the copy of your postage slip (please, consult with Movie Arms before mailing any firearm to them and get their approval before you do so !), we are perfectly aware of what disappointment and problems we have caused to some of our clients and would like to take this opportunity and deeply apologize to everyone with CSA vz. 58 Sporter RIFLE that doesn´t perform as it should and needs warranty service. No one is more sorry and embarrassed than me.

Many thanks for your patience.

Cool

Does anybody have a spec sheet of measurements for these mismatched products?

I have VZ.58 Sporter 7.62, which I haven't fired yet, it would be nice to know if something is out of spec prior to breaking it.

Ok...so have they cured the problem so future rifles will be reliable?

They found what the problem is and the solution for it....and you think they wouldn't rectify the issue during the mannufacturing process, and would rather keep replacing bolts and pistons at their own expense? While agravating their customers?

Think about it for a second...

I just had a tire shop put three new tires on my truck. They didn't tighten the lug nuts and I lost one tire at highway speed. I had the truck towed back to them, they fixed the damage and tightened the loose tires on the back but once again sent me away without tightening the other one... Some people are idiots

Edit... Fountain tire in Brandon mb if anyone's interested

well im guessing they will drill the gas ports smaller from now on . For the rifles with too big of gas port they are saying the fix is to have a smaller piston or inlarge the inside of the gas block to decrease compression causing pressure to escape out the sides of the piston lowering the strain on the bolt .. Its a common problem in semi autos to break bolts when the gas pressure is too high , usually caused by adding a sound suppressor but in this case its too big of a gas port ..

All the crappy manufacturing reports and problems I've read on this forum, not on my want to own list, specially at 700. ;)

That's strange. I remember my CZUB Vz 58 would just throw cases way the #### out there. I don't really remember how my CSA Vz 58 ejects but I was looking at some of my range pictures and they're a lot of cases sitting on the table so maybe mine is ok.

You would be lucky to find one at $700

FWIW I don't think you can go wrong with a CSA. They are guaranteed, and CSA stands by by their guarantee.

Looks like there will be no more CZ 858's so it's a CSA or a second hand 858 if you can find one.

4-5 meters is a far distance, Mine are ejecting further then any other gun I own but still only 3 meters at the furthest, which I thought excessive.

So.....is the problem fixed on the new ones coming in? And in what serial number range did they start changing out the piston? I've been kinda on the fence with these, I wanted to get a CZ 858, but we all know what happened there. For the extra 300 bucks I'd like to know I'm getting a reliable gun.

Its not an extra $300 anymore since everyone who owns an 858 thinks they're worth $900 now that they're not being imported. Spend $899 + tax on a new basic sporter CSA Vz 58 or spend $900 on who know how many rounds have been fired though it CZUB Vz 58.
