Dominion Arms shotgun ( Owners opinions)

8.5" mag fed Grizz is the best for defence, get 3 mags and keep each loaded, 1 with slugs, 1 with 00 buck, and one with target loads to scare off animals

I don't know where the idea the 8.5 is best for defence comes from. It's a sub-entry gun. Very limited actual utility. My only beef on the norinco is the lack of longer barrels.

Hey guys.. I am looking for owners opinions on these shotguns.... I am not familiar with shotguns one bit.... however I am considering one for 2 reasons....
#1 Defence from wildlife in the bush.. reliability is key in this situation.
#2 Something I don't have, that can be useful.

Thanks for your time and comments.

I bought the 12.5".. I've only had it a couple of weeks but so far I really enjoy it. I've fired a wide variety of shells through it - blasted through a whole bunch of bird shot cheap target loads to test function. I've also shot a handful of slugs and 00 buck through it. The recoil is really pretty mild - this is my first shotgun and I expected it to be near my .45-70 but it is not even close.

I bought this and my .45-70 as bear deterrent (there is a so-far friendly bear that roams across our property). I think the DA is a bit heavier than desirable for constant outdoor carrying but it is a tough call between enough firepower and weight.

Reliability has been perfect so far.. Fit and finish seems good - I'll probably clean up some edges a very small amount with some sand paper. I've included some pictures below (Canada Ammo's pictures are a bit lacking). One picture compares the size with my Marlin 1895GS. The gun is hard to get a good picture of so I mucked with the brightness and contrast some so you can clearly see some detail. Also there should be one very large picture - it is lifesize.

I was just in the process of experimenting with Fluid Film if there seems to be any goop in spots

damn good point.

Had a t2 lever action that was dangerously unreliable, must have been a lemon.

I have owned 2.

They have their flaws.

One was pretty good after some polishing and grinding a feed ramp into the breech end of the barrel. The other had issues with lifter timing.

I would not bet my life on one.

The only one I have any interest in is the outlaw. Any opinions on that one?

What's your interest ?

As a cheap prop that makes noise and blasts shells in a general direction for fun blasting of targets where it doesn't matter how accurate you are and two shots is always enough ... They are perfect.

If you want it for the bush or for hunting your better off with a standard 4 shot and a 12.5" barrel.

GF bought me a 8.5 grizzly. My first shotgun and only fed target loads. Went bang every single time and fed properly every time.

I got a nice Doe with my outlaw ,slugs, and a deer call
I will hunt with any rifle or shotgun no matter watt it is lol

I've had mine a couple of months and have put #4's, #6's, 00 buckshot and slugs through it.
It's been really solid so far with no problems.
Like others have said, it's heavier than it looks.
I really like it!!!

That's great Carver, I was under the impression that the rest of us were supposed to use barrels over 12 inches long to hunt in BC though.
I believe 12.5" is good to go for everyone.

How long is the barrel on your outlaw? I guess it's a well named gun eh... :)
Do hunting regulations apply to natives up in Haida country?

I've got a 12.5 tube fed and it's run flawless for years. Never once had a single hickup with it through countless rounds through it of all types, even flares lol. I put a sure fire forend and a hogue short stock on it and it's one of my favourite guns to bush trek with. Surprisingly accurate at 40 yards and i trust it completely when I'm in bear country. Finish is so so but who the hell cares? It's a bush gun. When I first got it I cleaned it, and for a few days while watching tv I racked it over and over. It's a very smooth cycle now.

Personally it's one of the best buys I've made value-wise with a firearm.

I bought a single shot backpacker and it fell apart in my hands after one round. Like the other fellas said... I don't think that I would trust my life on Dominion Arms.

The outlaw is 12" double barrel shotgun looks like a pirate gun lol
I was having trouble with my 260 so I ran back to the truck and grab the shotgun
Called the deer in to about 15 yards
We have to follow the hunting reg,s wen hunting off Haida Gwaii
But in are traditional hunting area we do as we feel is a prophet
We don't start hunting till after 2 months after the opening most of us rather wait for the deer to get fat
Nex trip out I'm hunting with a mares leg the deer are in the best shape now and will com quickly to a homemade deer call

So it looks like shooters that have actually spent anytime shooting a Grizzly like them.

Nothing 1st hand experience and having a majority all saying the same thing, everyone can't be wrong. :)

My friend had a 12.5 w/ ghost ring for years and it works great.

I recently bought a tube fed 12.5, expecting the same "quality" and it was terrible. Couldn't load shells into the tube.. and if by some small miracle you did, it wouldn't feed shells reliably at all. I sent it back to canada ammo and got store credit (which is what I asked for, because I'll do ammo purchases soon anyways)

I will never buy a norinco or dominion arms gun again.

I would not trust a grizzly shotgun for a bear defence but I think there fine for plinking or hunting but not my first choice
you have to be realistically about using them as a defensive shotgun
But it still better then nothing
