nickel plating or chroming pistol

I was in the same boat as you a while back. I doubt you will find any plating shops licensed to work on firearms. Your next best option is to buy a plating kit from caswell. It will be pricey and require alot of attention.
I ended up getting my pistol blued instead.

If your in southern ontario, your best bet is Rodger Kotanko at Dark International, as already mentioned. He is in Port Dover. Hard chrome is very hard to scratch, it is super durable. It can be satin or high gloss. I was quoted about 300.00 for my 1911. I'm getting it done in spring. This is the look I want.

The picture is an air gun but it's the style I'm going for. Rodger came highly recommended by a dealer in B.C. He thought it was funny he was telling me about a business that is only less than an hour from me. Good luck.

".....still looking..." Nickle is a 19th Century technology that comes off fairly easily and doesn't do a great job of preventing rust. Industrial hard chrome is another thing. Isn't like car chrome though, if that's what you're looking for.
In any case, you can't just go to a plating shop like you could before the FA. Suggest you listen to the guys about Dark. Gunsmith.

The only way you can take your restricted to a regular plating shop is if A) the plating shop would even want you bringing a handgun to their business, B) you stood beside the guy doing the plating the entire time, and C) if the CFO gave you an ATT to said business. Assuming that there ARE firearms businesses that do plating, you would have to go to them. If it something special that no 'firearms business' does, call the CFO and ask pretty please. They will probably want some sort of letter from the shop you are looking at getting to do it confirming that they don't have a problem with you taking it there and also confirming that they will allow you to stand next to the guy while he does it..............

If it were non-res, you could take it to whichever shop you wanted providing you followed A) and B).

Or you could just take the slide, and control parts like I did.
Hard chroming is simply chroming right over the steel, skipping the nickel step.
It is far more durable, and won't flake off or alter clearances.

The metal has to be polished perfectly though. This is the finish you wind up with. The nickel fills in small imperfections.
Cost me $80, and I did the polishing. Turned out nice!

I believe that Armco is plating or one of the other cgn sponsors cant rember wich one but I came across it one day.

They were given the boot from here as a sponsor dude. They are one of the few that I know that do it though. Just be prepared for it to take a long time to get it done and get your pistol back. Not exactly the quickest shop for anything.
