Sorry, just couldn't resist...you haven't tried the (put anything here) but according to you it's crap because you think you are logical and only your opinion is the right one :) unless you tried it your opinion does not count.
The more informed people curious why you have decided it's unsupported. We provide warranty replacements, we offer accessories, we offer 3 different versions and 5 packages, we promote the Viking at the gun shows and shooting ranges, I also offered you the try out...

Unless you with your favorite pistol and me with Viking meet at the range and shoot them until one of them malfunctions I see no point arguing here.

Facts are facts. The Viking pistols are far heavier than any competitive offering. Da/sa is a poor design that's seen its day.

You offer 3 whole versions. Who else has parts? Who offers holsters, does rcs or bladetech? Even blackcrap I mean blackhawk doesn't offer a holster for it. That's called a clue. Who offers sights for it, does trijicon or meprolight? Outside Russia has anyone worth a pinch of SH@t adopted it? These are not my opinions these are facts and questions that require factual information.

Russia is very good at plagerizing other designs. This is no exception and they failed to use a relevant design.

Personally, I like the added weight in my hand.

December will mark a year I'vebeen waiting on Ruger to repair a pistol. You'd think they're further away than Russia is... ;)

Alright... the VIKING is the first pistol to plagiarize another's design? Better hope none of the John Browning faithful catch wind of this particular nugget 'o wisdom!

Again comprehension on this forum is lacking. Please indicate where I said the Viking is or was the first plagerized design???

I am willing to take you up on that offer. My HK P30L light lem against the Viking? Now to find a backer to source the ammo :).

Ouch, you've got me dead to rights. A little to much whiskey for the Doc this evening. I'm guilty of saying "the FIRST pistol..." instead of "the ONLY pistol...".

But I digress.

With all seriousness, what do you regard as one of the better designs on the market? I'm sincerely interested, TDC. I Always value the opinion and experience of long time shooters.

You didn't ask me but I will chuck my opinion out anyways. For me personally HK is my number one pick. Well that's a bit obvious since that's where I actually put my money, I am particularly fond of the lem triggers, my number 2 selection is glock, simple, light, reliable, parts aplenty. Number 3, All german made Sig 226 only. Anything else, I will take if you give it to me for free but I won't drop my own dime on one.

Incidentally what are your favourites? And any particular reason?

Some people will keep this going as long as someone will listen. I think all the points on the Viking both pro and con have been debated to death. Let's find a new one to talk about. Again around the $500 mark would be nice.

Ya, wait, who provides the ammo?
We split the ammo cost, winner buys beer :)

Are those even available in canada yet? And list the reasons. Me wants know.

They will be available very soon ;) but it's not for this thread...sorry for derailing

is 9x18 Makarov or .380 ACP aka "9 mm short" aka 9x17 counts? or it has to be 9x19?

Your HK is quite a bit over the $500 mark, no? Regardless, I've got a couple/few boxes of "odds and ends" 9mm ammo that I'd volunteer/give for a "showdown" :). Maybe others in the Edmonton/Calgary area will throw some boxes in too...

If I had $$ to burn, I'd dig up some of the 1980's era US Army Pistol Trial tests--I might have the protocols around here somewhere--(the mud test, the sand test etc.,) and put some of these contemporary pistols thru them. It'd make for a good read....

This thread is going in all sorts of directions (sorry). Must refocus......

If it (makarov) does count, it's the best bang for the buck. Shortly after the Iron Curtain fell, I recall that Makarovs became a hit south of the border with budget minded, entry level CCW carriers. Although now (as previously mentioned) the Ruger SR9 comes close to current Makarov pricing.

The SR9 is probably your best bet. It is the best deal.

Glocks are not 700 dollar guns, they are $400-500 down here. Last month there was a sale on Gen 3 G22s for $405 out the door.

The SR9s are about 400 so you are getting something actually worth its cost instead of simply paying more for getting gouged when you buy a Glock.

Doesn't apply to most CGNers.

It should come as no surprise but arguably the most feature rich design would be a Glock. I have listed the differences between the Viking and a Glock below.

Dimensions- Viking/Glock (Viking is the polymer 113mm barrel length model as offered by interammo, Glock is stock model 17)

Length 7.79"/ 8.03" *unsure as to whether or not the Viking is a measurement of the slide only or max length including grip/frame.*
Width 1.49"/1.18"
height 5.71"/5.43"
Weight 30.7oz/22.2oz *unloaded*
parts count 50/35

Pros(aside from those obvious advantages above)

Low bore axis-Glock
No manual safety-Glock
Consistent trigger pull-Glock
Light rail-Glock
Night sights-Glock
Holsters-Glock
Rimfire conversion kit-Glock
Standard/compact/subcompact options-Glock
Interchangeable mags between sizes-Glock
Identical manual of arms across sizes-Glock
Interchangeable back straps-Glock(gen4) *IMO this is a marketing gimmick, but it is an option/attribute the Viking does not have*

I can't compare the reset between the two, but I can make an educated assumption that the reset is neither crisp nor does it lack over travel. I have yet to shoot a DA/SA gun except for a SIG with SRT that does not have over travel in the reset. Based on the images online I can also assume the length of trigger travel is far greater than that of a Glock(0.5").

With our stupid 10 round capacity limits we could stack the deck and compare a Glock 19 to the Viking. The numbers speak for themselves. If we pretend we live in a free country, the Glock 19 carries 2 less rounds for a lot less size and weight. While still retaining all the positives that make a Glock a superior design.

Dimensions Viking/Glock 19

Length 7.79"/7.36"
Width 1.49"/1.18"
Height 5.71"/4.99
Weight 30.7oz/21.16oz *Glock 19 loaded(15 rounds) weighs 30.18oz!!!*

Its clear the surface finish on the Viking is less than durable, as some have indicated significant wear with very low round counts. The tennifer finish used on Glocks has a long standing reputation as being near impervious to use and abuse.

With the above listed information, I have to ask again. Where is the modern, advanced, cutting edge design features and value in the Viking???

TDC

ETA: Just found information regarding trigger pull. The Viking in DA is 13.2lbs, the Glock is a consistent, 5.5lbs.
