So last week I took the "Norinco Leap" and puchased a 1911a1 to see for myself the quality or lack there of. I figured if it was junk, then I could use it as a "project gun" and hone my budding basement gunsmith itch. So it arrived, and I had low expectations...well it exceeded expectations on fit and finish. Sure there is some dehorning to do, and some sanding and polishing that was required....but it was pretty good out of the box.
So up to the range it went for the first time today (after a full break down, clean, lube and frame/slide rail sanding and polishing) with 4 boxes of 230grn Blazer brass.
As I sqeezed the trigger the first time I was execting a hole some where on paper....BANG!....holy crap sticks, dead center! I figured It was an anomoly, so the second shot....clipped the first hole. I said to my self "self....dafuq!?!". So I figured mag dump an 8 round at 10m...well may lightning strike me on the crapper if all 8 were not in a 1 inch group.
Now I have only been pistol shooting since August, so my skill is limited...but this thing is like a freaking lazer! I put 200 rounds through it with 1ftf (my 16 yearold limp wristing) and zero fte's and no stove pipes. Too say the least I am very very impressed with the accuracy and pretty damn happy with my decision....all in all I recommend this pistol, very fun to shoot and rock solid performance. Best $350 ive spent in quite some time.

I know in the past some have had some issues with Norinco quality and performance, but I think they have stepped up their game.....

Standingtall.....with a Norc

Norinco 1911's have come along way. My latest one has a very good fit and finish, and didn't neeed any sanding or dehoning. Trigger pull is also very good.
And like you found out, accuracy is on par with many of the "high end" 1911's. And that's why you get the Nork-haters.
They've been out-shot by a gun costing a fraction of what they paid for theirs. Must be embarassing, to say the least!:)

When I say dehorning, I am referring to the slide serations. They are pretty sharp, so I am planning on smoothing them out a bit....and I polish and sand all my pistols rails a bit before initial firing...its a precautionary effort cause I like a smooth rack right out of the gate.

Its just as accurate as my CZ and more accurate than Beretta....go figure

My Norco from the Canam deal is all over the place. It's the first 45 I have ever shot, but 300 rounds in so far it's patterning more than grouping. I hope that once I replace some internals and try to lighten up the trigger it will be better.

Interesting, indeed. I just got one, and am going to the range on Wednesday. When I took it apart, it looked kind of rough with regards to fit and finish. It was a bit stiff working the action, as well. I got the thing as part of the Norinco .223 deal @ Marstar. I didn't need a .45, but I figured what the heck. I'll post my results & experiences later on this week.

It's hit or miss with these whether they shoot well or not. Exterior finish is usually ok, interior is rough, small parts are rough, trigger pull is usually very heavy, sights are not great.
Check for looseness in the bushing to slide/barrel fit as that can hinder accuracy. Check for play in the barrel hood when locked up as well...push down hard on the hood and see if there is any movement.

The new 1911's with the Fiber Optic Sights are DEAD ACCURATE. Very surprising indeed. I have an older model, with combat sights and it is pretty darn accurate as well....Now having said that,.. my buddy has 2 year older combat model, and you cant hit anything with it LOL' it shoots all over the place" Luck of the draw ?? I really dont know.

I picked up my first norc about 10 years ago. Full size and parked. Dang accurate but I hated the park look to it so sold it to a friend. Then bought another one in blue and it became my 308 dominator donor package.I still haven't fired a single round of .45 out of it. Then this past August or so a sport model in two tone came up for sale in the EE.Took it out and at 25 yards put 2 into the 4 inch black bull target I had set up....figured hmmm...emptied the mag and they were all in the black! Another 7 rounds and I had 14 holes all in the black at 25 yards on a 4 inch bull target....Definitely gonna keep this one!!

Norinco 1911's

I thought the "Norinco Leap" was the dance you do when you find out the Norc 1911A1 pistol is actually pretty good bang for the buck.

Happy Norc 1911A1 owner here, too.

pretty much luck of the draw with ANY Chinese firearms, there is little to no QC, and each piece can vary considerably. Id guess a 50/50 chance that it will group decent vs poorly, and a 10-15% chance it will be a total lemon pos you wouldn't want to own. 85-90% of them will shoot and function properly if that's all you are concerned about.
