Hi Everyone,

Looking for a AR with a short barrel length for under $2000. Just wondering what to look for in a AR and what brands are good?

Appreciate the help!

Thanks T

There's a bcm 11.5 in the ee complete. Can't recall the guys asking price. 10.5" AR are tempermental and far less reliable than longer guns. 11.5 is the shortest you can go without risking issues in a di gun.

I just bought a Daniel Defense MK18. It has a 10.5" barrel and so far so good. Now I've only had it for 2 weeks and 200 rounds down the pipe but it's been fun and no issues. It has lots of great features for under $2000.

Not true.

I have used 10.3"bbl in the field and as a private citizen and have not had any issue due to barrel or gas return tube length. The crux is in the tuning, but once its figured out, its no less reliable than a longer length bbl. The Mk18/CQBR platform has shown its capability in numerous theatres of operation over the last twenty years.

As an aside, I have a DD Mk18 Mod1 Civvie street copy that I've got 1000rds down the pipe on with only the shakedown field strip and clean and lots of lube. I've had one stoppage due to missing a weapons check before hitting the range, I ran it dry and it still put out sixty or so rounds before it choked.

Stag, DD, BCM, LMT, PWS, Noveske, RRA, Colt.. anything in there and you are good. There are a great deal of other good brands as well. Personally I would stay away from Norinco and NEA, DPMS etc but many people love them for how cheap they are.

I like Christiansen Arms but out of the price range I think, other than that I would wait till spring for the Non Restricted ACR to hit the shelves

Very true, 10.5" Ar's have far more problems than 11.5" and longer. In addition, the velocity gain by just that one inch is substantial.

For one stop shopping...DD MK18...but for 11.5 go with BCM BHF version...not their regular barrel (if you can find one). Also, for consideration is Spikes FN made CHF 11.5.

Evidence?

My experience has been to the contrary in every instance I've used an issued 10.3" or 10.5" bbl carbine (CQBR/Mk18/DIEMACO L119CQBR)), and in my privately purchased civilian carbin,e a civvie version of the same. As I said previously, it does have to be properly tuned.

Muzzle velocity is not a consideration in this discussion operational reliability is. Stay on topic.

Everyone is different. If you don't know why you need an AR, and what you need it for, it would probably be better to determine your wants and needs. Might as well get a rifle specific to your needs and not the needs of others.

Basically I am looking to fill the void between handgun and mid/long range rifle. Something that would be used in an urban combat scenario. 10-50 yard with the capability of 100 yard.

Thanks T
