2013 Whitetail's lets see them

Ok so the party hunt, you just shoot and the person with the tag shows up?

The person whose tag is being used must be actively involved in the hunt, as well as be within 5km from the other hunters.

How were you able to take 3 animals by yourself ?
How do you get that many tags ?

.

I get the entire season off to hunt. (November 4-December 31) Several in our party can only take a few days, so their tags always go on the first deer we shoot, which happened to be my 10 point in this case. In addition to my regular 74A doe tag (didn't get my first choice 60) I purchased an additional antlered only, bow only tag for 74A, as well as an additional Antlerless tag for 53A. My father also bought a 53A antlerless tag to supplement his 74a Antlerless. The first trip to hunt 53A was with my father, so we had 4 tags we could use there, our 2 regulars which were only good for antlered deer there, and the 2 antlerless additionals. All said and done, I still have my 74A antlerless tag and additional antlered only archery only tag. Confused yet? :p

I haven't lived in Ontario for over 20 years but it sounds like the definition of being "actively" involved in a hunt has been relaxed a great deal. I recall we had to be within earshot of each other. That's great if this is the current law but personally I do not believe you can be "actively" involved in a hunt from 5km, unless they consider cell phone contact ect.?

Not sure where he got the 5km number from, but I have hunted ON for 30 yrs, and have never heard of it.

YES, you have to be actively involved, and in my situation there are 7 of us on 2 farms of 100 acres, the farms are about 1km apart, we can hear shots, we communicate with radios, and we always use up the "antlered only" tags or tags of guys who cant stay all week first.

As long as they are out hunting in the party their tag can be used, but they have to be the one who attaches it to the deer, but anyone in the party can shoot as many deer as there are tags to use. Lots of times 1 guy will get lucky and see a bunch when others see nothing.

You are required to be in direct contact with the other members. We use cell phones and text. For instance, when I shot the doe last night, it was the last doe tag for 53A (mine) and I immediately texted my friend who was 3 or 400 yards away in my treestand to hold off on any does. I then verified that I had hit her, and texted him saying that he could only shoot a buck. We also notch and tag our deer immediately before we move or gut them. I don't ever want to have a CO question me, so we do it all by the book.

Well I'll be... I'm not used to this whitetail hunting party deal. Up north, we get 1 moose tag for 5-10 guys, and the first one to hammer one down ends the entire moose hunt. Some continue with other game but once that moose is down, most guns are locked away and out comes the beer.

After missing my chance during the rifle season and having no luck in the bow season I was happy to take this buck 20 minutes into my blackpowder hunt. He stood 10 feet directly behind my tree stand for 20 minutes before moving off enough that I could take a shot. Not much of a rack but I'm a meat hunter and he's got plenty of that. The old CVA Eclipse strikes again. Good luck to everyone else.

Second season hunting and I had been looking forward to the controlled hunt since this time last year.

Hunted hard all week with nothing to show for it. Got my first buck, older 9 point with a broken 10th at about 8am the closing Saturday.

As a member of my hunting party was leaving the property to go pick up a doe shot a few km away he told me to move to a different ground blind. He pushed a big bodied 9 point my way and I got my second buck an hour and a half after my first.

Beyond happy with the hunt and I feel really lucky to be welcomed into such a great and helpful group of hunters.

Some great deer here, congrats all.

And MB. Some does and fawns but the bucks doing the breeding are 2 1/2 year olds.
I believe the majority of mature bucks died last winter.

Exactly what I'm seeing in the West Interlake. We haven't been able to find a single scrape or rub this year, and I haven't seen a buck track since the snow hit. Guess they got slammed harder than I thought last winter.

Hahaha I came from Ontario to Alberta... never leaving unless its in a box!

Gentlemen,

Leave the centre of the universe.!!

Come to AB where each hunter gets one general tag (buck or doe) and two supplemental antler less tags. Gives me and my wife 6 whitetails. Then the spring and fall bear or the general elk or general mule if you are willing to travel. Or bison, if you are REALLY willing to travel. Add in draws...

I will NEVER leave this province!!

Manitoba had the worst winter kill off I have seen in 10 years. Not to mention wolves.... lots of wolves. I saw a wolf bigger than the doe I shot. You won't see many big buck pics from MB and SASK.
