Ruger vs. Tikka... Thoughts?

Some T3s have walnut stocks. In any case, the syn stocks aren't "plastic" in the sense it's being used here. It is co-polymer... it's polymer plus fiberglass, and it's a tough stock, much more so than the three A-Bolts I had with their "plastic" stocks!;)

I've owned all three brands, and the T3 is as good as any and better than most of the last ten I've purchased which ALL had to have professional work done on them. The Ruger #1 is my favorite in .45-70 and the T3 in 9.3 X 62 is a close runner-up.

Ive owned both Rugers, Brownings, a ton of 700s. All required some sort of after purchase tweaking to get to shoot reasonable good. I traded a semi 10 gauge for a T3 Varmint in a 204 on this site 6 years ago. Since then I have bought, 4 more Tikkas. Two T3 lites ( 204, 22-250) 2 varmints T3. A 7 mm and a 223. Except for the 22-250 they are the 4 most accurate rifles I have ever owned. Including a couple of rebarrelled trued Remingtons. I read about all the plastic, and while aesthetics matter, in my Tikkas it has no way impacted their reliability. And my guns are shot, banged around in trucks, quads, airports. I have owned 5 Rugers, great little guns, all have had trigger and bedding work done, The best was a 223 varmint barrelled that shot at best 3/4 MOA. Not too shabby and was my go to gun for many years and killed truck loads of pelts.( I'm a commercial seal hunter). My next gun will be a Tikka and the one after that until I get a bad one. just my 2 cents.

To the OP...

Over the years I have shot a few examples of both rifle companies at the range and liked the feel of the Ruger over the Tikka.

See if anyone at your local range has them and will let you try shooting a few rounds out of before you buy.

Like 'em both but would lean towards the Ruger over the T3 personally.

Nothing more than personal preference, though.

NAA.

I've owned both, and the Tikka feels more exotic to me. Not the comment you were looking for, but it's just ###ier. And out of the box, tighter.

Why is everyone harping on the "rough" Ruger bolt?
It's a Mauser action, so more is going on. Tikkas are push-feed, which is why they're "smoother".

Next up: oranges are too sour, apples are better?

For the win! ^^

LOL. that was just steering the pot. LOL

honesltly, i would own both. there are pros and cons to everything and i think this thread is more funny than informative. you get what you pay for and if you dont like something, move onto something that you do like that suites your needs.
