You should sell it on the EE for more the an you paid new, and then buy the new one. It's a win for you and a win for the retailer!

Since you said you don't know much about ARs it might be worth mentioning that the upper receiver and barrel can be swapped out in a few minutes by anyone with opposable thumbs once they know how.
If you really want a different barrel, look on the EE and you might even be able to find someone to do a straight trade.
Inch and half isn't all that much difference.
I think there has to be a little bit of buyer accountability on your part . Yes you were sold the wrong gun or at least different from what you expected. A few hundred rounds and many months later is not the time to suddenly discover your gun is wrong because an accessory you want does not fit. You made other changes to the gun I assume from your posts and now want to return it. I say keep the gun and realise that if you are banned from the store there is probably no salvageable seller/buyer relationship regardless of if you keep or return the gun .I bought my first AR15 as advertised and use it for 5 months and fired at least 200 rounds of 55 grains ammo. Then found out that the rifling twist rate and barrel length were not the one as said as it should be. I managed to negotiate the return/replace of the rifle but banned in making business with the store. Now, still thinking whether to return the gun or just keep it to preserve the good relationship. Your opinion will be appreciated. I am new to rifle and just took the words of store's rep and online ad.

Sorry OP, after 5 months of you not noticing the barrel being shorter than what you wanted I see no reason for the store to take it back. If it had only been a few days then yes you could argue it, but not 5 months. Stevebot brings up an excellent suggestion though, just look for a new upper and swap it out. Do your homework for any future purchases and you'll be less disappointed.
Seems a bit harsh to ban you from the store, but then I'm wondering if you perhaps left out some of the info regarding how you handled it. If you lost your #### and flipped out in the store then I'd have banned you as well. However if you were calm and polite to the employees then I'd say a ban is harsh.
What is EE? Sorry i just want to be honest
