Banned in store after complaining about the Gun

If it was advertised and ordered as 16 inch with 1 in 9, then that is what you should get and the store should take it back without too much fuss. While the time elapsed shouldn't be of much consequence, the wrinkle is that you fired it. I can understand a newbie being excited to get shooting it but not noticing the difference in barrel length right away makes the story a little suspicious and open to arguement from either side. I find it disappointing that a retailer would resort to a store ban. If they can't see their own incompetence in this, I'd deal with another retailer (sometimes easier said than done in rural areas).

The barrel length should have been obvious when you opened the box.
The rifling twist will not make a speck of difference in shooting effectiveness.
Sorry, after five months, its your rifle, as is.
I can understand a store telling you not to come back, that your business isn't welcome.

Since you said you don't know much about ARs it might be worth mentioning that the upper receiver and barrel can be swapped out in a few minutes by anyone with opposable thumbs once they know how.

If you really want a different barrel, look on the EE and you might even be able to find someone to do a straight trade.

That is an excellent suggestion. A 14.5" 1-7 is probably one of the most popular barrels.

I'm curious what you hoped to achieve with your desired barrel length and twist...

Because honestly, there is no real world disadvantage to having the barrel you got, vs the barrel you originally wanted. There's very little difference in velocity, and bullet stabilization will be virtually the same at the ranges you'd be shooting a carbine (meaning 500m or less). The biggest difference is that if you were an "operator", that 1.5" shorter barrel might be desireable in exiting vehicles and "slicing the pie"...not worth the effort to bother swapping one for the other IMO.

Was there some reason specifically that you desired that twist and length?

Sorry OP, after 5 months of you not noticing the barrel being shorter than what you wanted I see no reason for the store to take it back. If it had only been a few days then yes you could argue it, but not 5 months. Stevebot brings up an excellent suggestion though, just look for a new upper and swap it out. Do your homework for any future purchases and you'll be less disappointed.

Seems a bit harsh to ban you from the store, but then I'm wondering if you perhaps left out some of the info regarding how you handled it. If you lost your #### and flipped out in the store then I'd have banned you as well. However if you were calm and polite to the employees then I'd say a ban is harsh.

I bought my first AR15 as advertised and use it for 5 months and fired at least 200 rounds of 55 grains ammo. Then found out that the rifling twist rate and barrel length were not the one as said as it should be. I managed to negotiate the return/replace of the rifle but banned in making business with the store. Now, still thinking whether to return the gun or just keep it to preserve the good relationship. Your opinion will be appreciated. I am new to rifle and just took the words of store's rep and online ad.
I think there has to be a little bit of buyer accountability on your part . Yes you were sold the wrong gun or at least different from what you expected. A few hundred rounds and many months later is not the time to suddenly discover your gun is wrong because an accessory you want does not fit. You made other changes to the gun I assume from your posts and now want to return it. I say keep the gun and realise that if you are banned from the store there is probably no salvageable seller/buyer relationship regardless of if you keep or return the gun .

Ya need a thick skin around here OP, folks are gonna be brutally honest so think if what your gonna post is worth it.

Hi, its okay. I would like to read the opinions of the masses on this issue of mine. I am taking all comments constructively, learn from them, analyze and make my very own course of action. I posted this concern for some to learn from my mistakes and for those dealers to learn as well on how to properly handle complaints to avoid same predicament.
