I just bought a fine Uberti lever repro - the 1876 Centennial rifle in 45-75. What a pain - brass only comes out of the States by wagon train, bullets have to be cast by Yours Truly...and by the look of it only the manly black powder will serve as a proper propellant!

I haven't had this much fun since Pop bought me my first .22!

Anyhoo, I am looking at those beautiful single shots like the Sharps and Rolling Blocks and the fine micrometer tang sights they use...and I think I want one for my lever gun. I know this isn't a long range gun, and I know I won't match Quigley by shooting milk buckets at 800 yards...but I think one of those sights would be a helluva lot of fun to play with on the range! Have any of you fellers gone this route? If so, please let me know what your experience was?

If this doesn't end well I will just return the original sights and invest in a proper long range express gun. Ya know - the older I get the more fun this black powder nonsense appears to be! Your two bits are sincerely appreciated!

The term 'Bubba' only applies to those destroying milsurps or other collector grade stuff. Ain't no Uberti collectors, 'cuase there ain't no collectable Uberti's.
"...a helluva lot of fun..." Exactly.

This is a first. I actually agree with sunray. Drill and tap away, you won't do any harm by properly installing a tang sight.

The latest Lyman manual has a section at the front for loading smokeless in these replica 76's

But if you're having fun, forget I ever said so ;)

Where did you come by brass, by the way? I emailed the outfit in rapid city ages ago and never did get a reply from them (I forget the company).

A tang sight will definitely improve your accuracy. If the upper tang is already drilled and tapped, you just need the proper tang sight.

I was told by Jamison that they can't ship to Canada.

Just this afternoon the folks at Buffalo Arms said the same.

I have 'snowbird' parents that are wintering in Arizona...can I have the brass sent to them and have them bring it up in the spring...? Is there an issue with empty, unprimed brass at the border...? I got a bunch with the gun as part of the purchase price...but I like to have lots of brass.

There are others who are better versed at the legal stuff, but as I myself understand it Canadian customs won't give them grief over empty shell casings. If the yanks for some reason stop them and find the stuff, then it's trouble.

pieces of drawn metal are serious business down there...

You'd think that the outfits selling the guns would make some effort to get the brass in stock. I suppose that the demand for brass is less than the demand for the rifles ;)

I am a Uberti collector and some of them are collectable ie: Upper and Lower Canada 1851 Colts limited edition they also made some miniature revolvers that are quite collectable (expensive)..
As for adding some sights to a rifle that will make it more enjoyable to shoot go for it...as long as it is done carefully it may increase the value.

Do whatever you want to your Uberti but messing with something like this is grounds for 100 lashes and banishment.

PM sent....

Epps can get manufactured 45-75 WCF ammo from Ten-X ammunition. You should contact them to see when the next shipment will be in.

Tang sights, either Lyman style or Vernier style are a very common addition to Uberti leverguns. They are used extensivly in the Cowboy Sihloette game.
Good place to look for the Vernier style is Montana Vintage Arms .
