That`s the kind of answer I`m looking for. Next question is, Which take off barrel has a shank big enough to re-thread? I`ve been reading about a ring silver soldered to the bolt face to create a recess for the rimless cartridgeA take off .223 barrel with a shank large enough to be threaded to 1-14 could be fitted. Straightforward, I've done it.
The Australian conversions used a boltface with a countersunk recess to keep the case in place for extraction, and a plunger ejector.
Do you know if the savage small shank barrel can be rethreaded for the enfield action?I reworked a Sako varmint barrel. A Remington 700 would work. The barrel will have to be rethreaded, and headspace adjusted with a reamer, as necessary. M700 takeoffs appear in the EE regularly.
