Bullet Puller Review - Kinetic Puller vs. Collet Puller

I don't have an issue with my kinetic puller, but it only gets used once in a blue moon when I make an uh-oh. If I had any plans to pull apart a bunch of factory cartridges or do it in bulk for some reason, I'd probably get a collet. The nice thing about the kinetic is you don't have to mess with your press if you do something out of order. Just toss it in, tighten the nut and bang, bang on the basement floor it's done. Right back to reloading. Hopefully right this time.

There is another type of puller. I often just stick the round up through my press and grab the bullet with a side cutter. handy if I am not fussed about saving the bullet. For some applications, slightly damaged bullets work just fine, anyway.

If I am going to pull hundreds or thousands of bullets, I use one of these pullers.

On the up stroke the new round pops the old bullet out the top.

On the down stroke the bullet is grabbed and pulled free of the case.

looks like you have alot of spilled powder!

I use kinetic if I want to reuse bullet. 1-2 hits and its out....
to scrap bullets, I just pinch it with pliers above the press, then lower the ram.

the grip and pull looks nice.
Collet puller is probably nice if you have to pull alot of bullets. Honestly, I just pull one once in a while, so I don't really care.

I've had no problems with my kinetic "puller" but I don't need it often. My biggest complaint is it won't do the .50 cal I need to pull right now.

As to collet style pullers, I don't like the idea of needing different collets for different calibers and have been considering the Grip N Pull as a universal solution

a bit pricy but you spend the money once and don't have to buy anything else...ever.

Ordered 2, looking forward to giving them a try...

I have both if the bullets don't have a bunch of value or are going to the plinking pile the collet puller gets the nod. Try pulling cast bullets that are on the soft side with a collet and you will wish you had a kinetic. Bullets i want to reuse and not have defects in them the kinetic every time. Get a good piece of hard wood log or 4X4 and stand it on end hit the end of the log or post and not the side and they seem to work better. The Kinetics are not perfect and they can cause a man frustration but I find the do not mar the bullets.

Ken.

+1 hitting the end of a cut piece of wood with any of my reloads and they come apart usually within 1-2 good hits. but when you hit the same wood on it's side it takes alot more attempts. i suspect the side causing a bounce where as hitting the end puts most of the energy into the bullet.

"...too much energy was converted into sound..." Operator failure. How well a kinetic works depends on what you're whacking it on. Rugs, carpets, wood and even concrete do not work worth beans. A nice medium sized rock(about the size of a human brain with one flatish side), you got for free, on the other hand, works like hot dam. All of which assumes that speed isn't a requirement.

OHHHHHHHH! Here I was banging it on a couch cushion.... You may have missed my joke, google conservation of energy and hopefully you can relax and have a chuckle to yourself later.

Not bad for 1300 rounds pulled.
i'd agree with that :)

he won't, i believe he is a computer program/computer that doesn't understand things outside of his programmed beliefs.

I have the hammer tyoe that works just fine. I usually only need it if I switch bullets and forget to reset my micrometer seating die, so with one or two rounds it isn't a big deal. It would be a huge PITA to pull my seating die out out of the press and put the bullet puller in just to pull one bullet. However I did load up about 500 rounds one time that showed great promise at 100 yards, these didn't shoot worth crap at 1000 yards so they all had to be pulled. I borrowed a collet puller from my buddy for this job.

Mine is permanently set up in my RockChucker, on one end of the bench. Lots of Mexican Matching done here with milsurp x39, x54R, .223 and .308. Just need to change collets for .223 or .243 if I mess up one of them.

Not bad for 1300 rounds pulled.
Ganderite,
you posted the manufacturer info once before. Care to do it again?

i have both kinetic and collet, but that always seemed so much more slick!

Lol, funny. A computer programmed not to use the quote function so you can't figure out what it's talking about half the time!

Hee hee, couch cushion....

I use a lee classic loader so a kinetic puller is my only option. :) Though I've yet to make an error in my reloads, I assume about 200 .308 cartridges at this point so still pretty new to the game.

Show me a kinetic puller that will drop a bullet out of a case with the first whack and I will eat my words.

Would you like ketchup with the words? Except for unusual bullets like fully seated wadcutters (which collett pullers absolutely can't remove) I am surprised when it takes me more than one whack to pull any handgun round and most rifle rounds. Been doing it successfully for 30+ years so I must be doing something right.
