I acquired this tin pouch with some other bits and pieces this week. It appears to be a ball or cap pouch made of tin with soldered seams. The designs appears to be brass or copper. It has a tin belt loop on the back side. There is an eye on each end to tie something to it or to hang some bobbles or something. By the design I do not believe that it is NA made.
Can any one give me any information or historical value of this piece. I have tried searching the net but cannot find anything similar.
It is 5.25"Lx2"Wx2.5"H
Thank you.

I dont think its for lead balls the double acting hing lid would be to hard to hold open or get open in a hurry i think.
That said it looks really old and i bet its worth something. theres alot of work went into makeing that.
very cool piece .

My best guess is Turkey or some country around there.
The gold domes is why i think that has that istambul look to it.

x2 for Turkish origin. Most of their battle equipment was pretty ornate, and by the way, they hung their "balls" on the outside suspended from the little rings.

The long hinges, soldered seams and the general style of workmanship resemble a little flat box I have here.

Mine was made by my Grandmother late in 1914 when she took the Automobile Driver/Mechanics' course in the Women's Army, shortly after it was formed.

Hers was a training exercise during the course, to get the women used to the idea of working with actual metalworking tools.

This one is rather more ornate.

Good thought.............

Well so far, no new info as to where it was made or what it actually is..................I do believe that it was owned previously by a gentleman in the Nanaimo area.

Possibly for pipe tobacco? As a kid, I had a plainer tin box not unlike that in size, with belt loop and used it to carry my dew worms when I went trout fishing... just a thought.

When I first saw it I thought the same thing that it was for worms/bait. But for some reason I felt that it may have been for firearms. I may have to look down the fishing tackle road.

If you really think it originates in the Old World, I suggest that maybe you contact Mick, of Mick's Guns website in the UK.

Besides firearms of all sorts, he's got lots of strange and wonderful antique accessories related to the shooting sports. He is an abject shooting enthusiast and often posts antique shotgun shooting sessions on youtube.
His website is very interesting BTW.

maybe?
