. I guess you could also use it as a barge pole if you're in the wetlands. Or use two guys to sling a deer on and to carry over their shoulders.

Remington 870 factory barrels 36" long do exist. I've seen a couple but they are quite rare. I'd suggest trying the EE and see if there might be one available. The second option would be a Hastings Metro Barrel that screws into the barrel where the choke tube would go.

I'd say that Metro system might just be the ideal Christmas (belated) gift for him.
He can screw on the extension for when he is wanting the crowbar length barrel, or he can remove it when he's tired of carrying it. He can always mail order s a second extension if he feels the need to have a barrel longer than anyone else's.
Could be the start of an Outport Arms Race!

The guy believes in the more tube, the harder the hit theory. WRONG! Even with today's hotter loaded shells, all the powder in a 12 ga. will be burnt up within 22".
A nice goose or duck gun would be a Mossberg 835 with a 28" tube. Change out the butt stock for a Houge Overmolded unit and yer good to go.
If he wants a longer tube, then slip some Viaggra into his coffee!

Well I agree with the shell theory but disagree with the barrel length.I shoot a 30" beretta tube with a 4' ext. choke ,why because the swing is as close to my 34' barrel trap gun and the follow through is natural. Like a long barrel shoot a long barrel like a shorty be my guest. Even amoung skeet barrels 28" is considered the norm now...

I am tired of trying to help out my father in law. He has asked me to locate , in his words, " get me a Mossberg or Remington shotgun. I want wood stocks, a ribbed barrel, and a barrel that is super-long" His intended quarry is Atlantic ocean open water ducks.
I have tried to tell him that with the advances in ammo these days, that a 28" barrel with an extra full choke will do what he wants, but all his buddies use those old 36" barrelled, single shot shotguns. He believes that unless the barrel is 36", that all his shot will be done before 30 yards, and he will just be shooting for nothing. He is 67, an "OLD SCHOOL NEWFIE" that has fished his entire life. His hands and face are so weathered that they do double duty when we run out of sandpaper. I am just not finding the words to tell him that getting a PUMP ACTION with a barrel longer than 30" will be next to impossible to do. (especially when he wants the other options with the gun also
Does anyone know if its possible to find a long barrel that will fit either a Mossberg 500 or Rem 870? I am gonna wait until I find him a long barrel first, then purchase the gun that fits the barrel after.................(or at the same time if possible!!!!, but I'm prepared to buy a barrel first if I can find one. )
Please let me know what my chances are of finding him a longer than 28" barrel that I only seem to be able to find.

Goose gun idea is pretty funny but they don't cycle anything but 3" and the recoil is...brisk? Most other descriptions make the teller sound like a P*ssy, but it's a lively gun on the recoil end.
Dad still has one...it was a 'Coyote Hammer' with BB loading.
Shot my first deer with it, they really reach out there.
