The M1 Garand Build Thread

Canada Custom's will send you a notice that they plan on destroying your gun part and a reason why. You then have to provide written proof that they are wrong.

So a bunch of us ( me included) have bolts stuck in Mississauga. If some one is successful in getting their bolt, let us know. Is it just a long delay or is it gone? Emailing Constantine should get your tracking number, but there is nothing he can do about it. Trying to get a human at Canada Post is near impossible.

Constantine sent me a new tracking # that's comes up invalid. I'm not getting a good feeling about this. I may have to dispute the money now through ebay.

Wait a few days until the package reach Canada. C. Is great.

You guys might not want to get C. to ship other bolts if they are going to get destroyed. However... the second one she sent to me is out of Mississauga soo... The process seems quite random.

Maybe if C. can ship the bolt stripped in two different package they would get in ''legally'' to the eyes of CBSA ?

I have contracted Constantine about my 1SA55 NOS barrel, he told me it was delivered, but it has not been. So I asked for a tracking number and have not heard from him since....

Apparently he's a good guy and I got my bolts from him no problem. I think he's a bit disorganized though and with the Christmas rush. I normally wouldn't be concerned but it has been over 3 weeks.

Just got my receiver the other day. They were out of Berrettas, so I settled for a Breda. Surprise to me, these things look brand new and have never had a barrel or anything else fitted. ;)

You have to have all of the technical manual's that you can make copies of the important information. Your time frame is short! Sending parts in two different shipment's, ie bolt's, could
result in a world of pain for you. Custom's has the law on their side. You have to have a reason for doing what you do that make's sense to them. They can and will destroy stuff because
you will not take them to court over parts.

Do it! Me I'm to late to do it! If it ever arrive just send him the money true (FRAUD ALERT)!

On the flip side, front line folks don't know the manuals inside and out and sometimes make it up as they go along. Having been with another agency that cleared stuff for customs in a previous life, I am somewhat familiar with the process and the levels of discretion involved. There is no reason I know of to refuse entry for bolts; however, it will be an issue if items are under valued or incorrectly identified, rather than vaguely identified. If an inordinate amount of time has passed or there is an indication that the shipment has been catastrophically interupted, a polite e-mail to whichever supervisory level staff you can find in the federal directory will go along way. You do not have to have any reason for doing what you. Destroying lawful items arbitrarily would be a problem.

I justcontacted him.he said don't worry as last christmas there was up to a 45 day wait.
He said everyone got their stuff.
He said it's legal to ship bolts, etc to canada.

Are you referring to the 45 day ebay/(FRAUD ALERT) limit to initiate a dispute? How long does it take for Canada Post to notify you that your bolt is being held for potential destruction?

Yes I am talking about the 45days (FRAUD ALERT) limit!

Well he emailed me back again and said will check with customs Tues. If he sent me a invalid tracking # and it was stuck in customs, would it be in the Canada Post tracking system? Its almost been 30 days, so I do have some more time before I am forced to initiate a dispute with Pay Pal.

All new barrels are short chambered and require finish reaming in order to establish proper headspace. Of all the NOS GI barrels that I've installed I only found one that would accept the "go" gauge with a used GI bolt w/o any finish reaming. It is important that proper headspace is established on both the "go" and "no-go" gauges.
