The M1 Garand Build Thread

Yes there should be two bends actually. If it is straight, then it is going to have to get bent. Haha, always wanted to say that in context.

As an aside, I finished my SA .30-06 build today. Now to devote more time to the pb in .308.

Here's the latest '06 for the stable :) Soon to be my "shooter". Wearing a new-old-stock 2/55 SA barrel, a new bolt, and a newly fitted unissued birch buttstock, the rest of the rifle is original to the receiver. The receiver itself was in great shape except for a small bit of cosmetic pitting on the receiver heel. Oh well, that's why it's now my "shooter". Parkerizing job done by Vulcan, everything else by yours truly.

The original barrel was a 1960 SA with a bore that was about a 9.5, but I had the NOS bbl here from Constantine anyhow, and it gauged 0/0 so I had to use it ;) The other bbl will be up in the EE at some point.

Yeah, that one is either damaged (bent) or was modified for some other bbl config IMHO. I'd exchange it if it were me.

By the way, if you have a gas cylinder, try the one that looks off with the tip inside a mounted gas cylinder. It could just look off from your camera angle.

There are actually 2 varieties of op rod bend profile. The late 77 rods are more dramatically bent to more closely follow the base of the barrel, a mod that came out of NM lessons learned at SA. Depending on the drawing numbers, it might be OK that yours are different than one another, but you need to mount the op rod in a cylinder to see if it will work or not.

Will index the barrel and try that on monday :)

Ordered 2 PB trigger assemblies from Italy. One made it ok. The other was opened and sent back to the seller with a orange sticker "refused at customs" "do not deliver in canada", whats up with that I wonder?

Seems a solid vendor that you found there Navy. A hassle indeed for both parties, on both sides of the pond.
Bizarre ... one package flies right on through, the other identical parts group ... return to sender ?.
Gotta wonder sometimes at the arbitrary nature of Can. Customs decisions.
Good luck to ya mate.

I've been lucky so far, just a few more receiver bits needed to complete ... and not a doggy part or any prob whatsoever to date.
Big thanks to member Kevin M for the NOS WRA trigger group.!
Do wish that bolt from Constantine would show up soon though.

Learned so much from this thread, thanks Gent's. :)

That's what I was thinking, he'll resend it for more dollars, but has offered me a refund. I did get one in almost perfect condition though.

If you email Constantine he/she? may have a tracking number. I got one for my barrel.

wgamble89.
Ordered the bolt through a member friend who has all these modern hy-tec electronic "beam me up Scotty" type purchasing instruments.
Will pester him for follow up.
I'm the PO/snail mail 'ol dinosaur dude  ... and a PITA of a way of buying up all those dozens of parts for a Garand building bee .... big time. :slap:

And yes, I am coming to see the errors of my ways!. LoL. d:h:f:P:2:

Constantine barrel package got flaged by CBSA it seems.

A big fat yellow sticker on it, saying the parts were wrongly declared. (was written ''spare part'')
The big yellow CBSA sticker was saying ''gun parts'' lol.

Seems like they might watch his stuff closely. A few members have stucks bolts at the customs... (myself included)

Working on the follow up.

Y'all see ^that^ action there gents?.

Yet another example of why this particular crusty 'ol geezer, ... he will brook no criticisms ... as to the sterling qualities of our younger shooters here in Canada.

And Kev M .... he has some really nice Garands ..... & knows how to shoot 'em too;)

D'awww, you're too nice to me you old 6.5 mouser loving fart. :D

Edit... made contact with the seller, he is checking his records for shipping info and tracking info.
