234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

I thought that's what you where going for..........get really sassy and build one on a 223 case simply necked up :)

Mind if I use the last half of that expression? I never heard the rest of the sentence before, but I like it.

I made it up for Doug's thread (he made a comment about cabin fever setting in early) and as far as I know "Urban Dictionary" hasn't picked it up yet... so feel free to use it any time...

My thinking is to confuse those provinces and territories that have the 23 cal law, like Yukon and Alta used to when I lived there.............however in the light of a new day............who cares? We have 22 cal bullets from 30 grns to 90 grns and 24 cal bullets from 55 to 105 or heavier, so there is a huge overlap already with nothing significant to gain, except having the dubious distinction of having the smallest legal caliber in those places which stipulate 23 cal for big game.

The 23 caliber minimum hunting bullet exists in some US states as well it turns out. The .234 RCBS, .234 Rockchucker and .236 super were answers to that say some. Beartooth bullets has a bit of info.

Well it seems there may be some interest there, so let's get back with it then............Let's choose a parent case, 243 comes to mind just for ease of making and availability, I personally love the 284 case...23-284 ? Na too much case for caliber, 250 Sav Imp should have about the right capacity and could be made just by necking up 22-250 and fireforming to improve. If a person wanted to go longer case with extra long bullets and throat to match, maybe a 6mm Rem case and work with 110 - 120 grn bullets @ about 3000 fps. Maybe too heavy a bullet, 80 - 100 grn would probably work out better, and then something in a 65 gn hp for varmints.
Next is a name.....

Can anyone find dimensional drawings for the 234 RCBS or the 234 Rockchucker........I have used every bit of computer talent I have (about 5 mins worth) and other than RCBS makes special order dies for them I can't find any other info.........HELP!!! Sure would like to know parent cases for these and performance parameters.

I don't know, I think that a 23-284 Winchester would be great.
If Marshal would make a 107gr bonded VLD, I could see it going 3200fps out of it. 53-57gr of slow powder....
That would make it a very good LR western bomber.....
I'd order a barrel up. When is this happening? :D
.230-.234 groove and lands?

about 3 posts down in the link I posted , it appears the 234 rockchucker is based on the 6mm rem case .

it also appears that the 234 rcbs was based on the 6mmrem case .

Sounds like we're trying to reinvent the Savage .22 Hi Power, with a slight increase in caliber to make it big game legal. It was a bad idea in 1912 and probably still is. But the high velocity small bore guys have had just enough success with premium bullets to make the idea intriguing. I'd be looking for speed and base the thing on an '06 case, a .284, or a 7X57, in an attempt to get 45 gr bullets to tickle 5000 fps. Of course the real meat to this thing would be a 90 gr game bullet near 3000 fps. Hell, I might even want a barrel if it'll do that.

A new wildcat for me and Gatehouse? Sounds good when do I get it? I'll take mine on a Remington action a 24" Rockcreek bbl (they made a couple 23's before or so I heard). The 22-250 case sounds good with a fast twist bbl. AND if it's coming from you I promise to load it up until brass is a flow'n and primers are a blow'n

If your building this for the small bore/big game guys... But proving a point to everyone else, consider naming it the ".234 Game Changer." To be truly unique, you'll have to do it in a case that hasn't been used, so the 6mm and .243 cases are out...

Hoyt.........you mean something like a 30 Rem case......or a 7.62X39 imp......I know what case I should use.........6.5X55 Imp 35 deg............what say y'all, 6.5X55 Imp.........good brass available, never been done, good case capacity. Go with a long action to allow throating as required, keep the Americans confused and call it the 5.8X55 Imp.......keep the fish cops confused as well. HHHHMMMMMM.............
