Is it worth the extra money ?

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a 1911 in .22lr for target practice. Tought about a Buckmark or Ruger but they are not as appealing to me as a 1911.
My mind is quite set for a GSG 1911 which seems to have good reviews. But then I also look at the Kimber 1911 in .22lr which seems much nicer but of course for 3X the price. My question: Is the Kimber worth it or should I go with the GSG ?

Thanks for your input.

GSG 1911-22 is a fine gun. I would certainly rather have three of them, than one Kimber.
I have the GSG but also manager to get a lightly used Kimber Conversion Kit, and but it on the frame of a Norinco (CanAm1911/ammo deal) .
Sights are better on the Kimber, but it is also pickier about what ammo it cycles reliably.
Kadet is hard to beat, pricey, but worth it. Totally reliable and very accurate. Just not on a 1911 platform.

And I must also add that my hesitation to go with a Buckmark or Mark 3 is almost entirely because I perceive that they are complicated to clean. Are they that hard to maintain? Would I get more accuracy from a Buckmark or Mark 3 ?

The GSG seems nice but I have a feeling it is not going to last many years like Buckmark or Mark 3 would. Am I right?

Thanks again

I'm a huge fan of Kimber 1911's, but their 22 1911 is definitely not worth the price, buy a GSG 1911-22 and you'll never regret it, they are a great pistol.

Ruger MKIII will last forever, and you can get good instuctions on YouTube for fieldstripping.
Kadet's a superior gun, IMO, and easier to clean and maintain.

I shot the M&P 22, very nice. Colt 1911 22 was very nice also. I've been reading about reviews on the GSG 1911 22's, some people are complaining of the longevity of the finish on the slide. Especially if it is the not blued versions, like the dark green or tan. It may chip off or nick.

I maybe wrong, this is what I've been reading from posts, just passing on the info, look into it and ask.

I'm looking to do the same for 22 shooting, I love my 9mm SIG 226.

I like mine, shoots very reliably with minimags. The only downside is the mags don't hold the slide open on last round.

Being a Kimber, its an actual 1911 frame (aluminum). That means you can modify it with aftermarket parts to your heart's content. Can't say the same about the Colt/Walther copy that I have handled and shot with. From what I have read, the GSG's are fine too.

I bought the GSG and had a good time with it. It's now with another satisfied owner. Kimber is not worth it.

Personally, not caring for the 1911 platform as much as my favourite Sig 226 setup - there are conversion kits for it if you love the Sig platform like I do. *By the way, the Sig 1911-22 is a re-branded GSG*. 10% off everything at SFRC until midnight tonight - code is in their section.

They also have a dedicated 226 and 229 in .22 (10% off until midnight) and you have the option of buying a centerfire X-Change kit later:

Good luck.

I'm waiting to go out again to shoot my Sig226, first time shooting it, hits on target was way off. Maybe anxious, cold, gloves, or sights, and or ammo. I'll give it another chance before I move my sights. At 25 yards, aiming for top top right and hitting lower left of target. I've been right on when shooting my buddies same Sig, he shot mine with the same result, off.

I own the kimber which I bought new at a very good price. It has been flawless even with federal bulk pack stuff.I also owned a gsg which I liked but there is no comparing the quality.Kimber wins by far.I also had a problem develop with the gsg and it couldn't be resolved even by a good gunsmith.I sold it to a friend who was aware of the problem.I don't know if the kimbers are worth the ask or not but I still have mine and the gsg is gone.
