So what is the word on these? Is the gen 4 glock 17 good to go; has glock worked all the bugs out yet?

Or is the m&p9 (still?) a better option for economy 9mm with adjustable grips?

Had mine for over a year now. Several thousand rounds down the pipe with no failures, no problems and no headaches. Any issues with the springs have been resolved, they're gtg.

They should be. I'm pretty sure there's a spring replacement plan if you do get one of the very first that had the issues. Current production should be fine.

Of course its good to go, its a Glock :)
That being said. Ensure it has the proper recoil spring in it. (They had issues with the early production but you seem to be aware)
Other than that. Solid pistols.

Have had it for over a year absolutly perfect not one failure of any kind..

It feels nice to go shoot it ank know it will go bang every time

YES!

A few thousand through mine with no stoppages and very accurate too :) I would never go back to a Gen3

Yep -

The spring issue was identified pretty early on after the release of the 9mm (the issue was only in the 9mm) - Glock didn't call it a 'recall', their terminology was 'exchange'.

It's all good now.

Extractor issues persist, which show up in the form of weak and unpredictable ejection.

They're fixable and I would take a gen 4 glock over an m&p.

Or the OP could just find one of the many pre-2010 Gen 3's around and bask in it's boring reliability.

Hell, I'd buy a Gen 2 before I'd buy a Gen 4. I'm just not interested in sorting out problems that should have been fixed two years ago.

For anyone wondering the date of manufacture of a particular Glock, look here:

I have WTB ad right now for that very thing! lol

Someone on m4carbine.net stated that the gen4's had turned the corner.

While I wait, I think I'll take the plunge see what happens.

Got mine before 2011. It always worked flawlessly even after a few thousand rounds. I changed the spring and ejector because they were "problematic" in the eyes of some. Mabey they were mabey they werent. The gun worked before and still works now with the new bits. Only dif is now I have extra springs and parts laying around at no cost to me :)
