hi folks

I will receive my upper next week and starting to think about some load who migth work wellin a AR-15
i have some hornady 168grBTHP and for powder win296 imr4227 cfe223 longshot
I also plan to pick up some 110/125gr and some heavier like208/220/225

If you have some experience to share it will be appreciated

Best Regards and keep your sights up‼!
Mike

If you want your AR to cycle you will need 3 powders.
For bullets 110gr-125gr use Hodgedon H110. I pretty much only load 110gr Hornady but I've also gotten 125gr Speer TNT to cycle with it.
For bullets from 130 to around 175 use Hodgedon LiL'Gun. I mostly run 140-165gr with this powder.
For everything heavier use Acurate AA1680. My AA1680 loads are subsonic 208gr Hornady and they cycle well.

I'm using a PWS Mk109 piston driven AR with 9.75 inch barrel.
PM me if you want some reload data. I have a folder I built with a few different sources. I have the Hornady #9 manual which has a few pages worth and Hodgedon just updated their site with more loads. Keep in mind that the powders they have loads for other than the three I suggested probably won't cycle a semi auto.

Good luck

dont have an AR in the 300 BO.
shooting 300 BO in a savage built bolt gun 13 inch BBL made by north shore barrels, great work, highly recommend them if our considering a build.
for supersonic i load 16.8 grain H110 and hornady 110 grain v-max using cut down Winchester brass. shoots 5 leaf clovers at 100 yards and just around 1 moa at 200 yards. love the gun.

tip: something to keep in mind if your forming brass from 223 is the make of brass. i found out the hard way that the cheap milsurp brass is just to thick and it will form a thick neck which will not chamber well. so unless you plan on neck turning i would sugest to check and see what formed brass chambers well in your rifle.
i found for my rifle , S&B, winchester, R.P. and Hornady brass fits nice and snug.

i shoot 300 blackout ar and use mostly A1680

150gr Hornday btfmj with 19gr
208gr Hornday match with 11.5gr

Also tried 215gr berger, 220gr SMK, & 225gr Hornady. All shoot fine from ar.

150 cycle and bolt hold open, 208+ will cycle but no bho with my 9" pistol gas ar.

Form my own brass from 223

My one experience/pointer:
I have tried using Remington factory once fired UMC 300BLK brass with the Hornady seating and roll crimp die: it didn't work. I either got zero crimp or a compressed casing that would not chamber: seems the brass has a thin shoulder. I bought a lee factory Crimp Die and it works flawlessly: using H110 and 110gr tips I have reloaded those brass at least 6 times so far with no problems.

(Using a Core15 16" AR with a carbine gas length.)

Tagged. Just building a 300BLK upper as well.

DOH! Wish I'd read about the factory crimp die before placing an order with Brownells last week. I'll have to play it by ear or order one from Brownells next time. Heck, I'm still hunting for a barrel. :p

Mine needs a minimum charge of 12gr of AA1680 to cycle and lock back with 208gr Hornady BTHP

I never crimp my rounds, if i did want to i would just use the seating die.

As for barrel srfc has some on stock.

19.4gr of H110 under a Hornady 110gr V-max is also my magic load for that bullet and is giving very close to 1 inch at 100yds.
I made all my brass from Remington .223 brass as well. I think I have close to 700 of them right now :)

I did try 110gr V-max with 20gr of H110 with good results in my 16" barrel, just ran out of 110gr. I can get 1/2" groups at 50y with 19gr A1680 and 150gr Hornady with 9" barrel. I need to get to 100 and 200 range to see how much it opens up.

Good to hear that barrel is working well for you.

OP: For subsonics out of an AR, I use 9.7 - 10.0gr of W296 under a 208 AMAX.

I was thinking of using the crimping die just to finalize the sizing and add a very light crimp since it'll be feeding through a semi.

Yeah, I saw the NEA barrels at SFRC and I might get one for now but I have a source for cast lead pills if I wanted to shoot for cheap plinking and the NEA barrels, unfortunately, are polygonal rifling. Not that you "can't" shoot lead through it, just more caution involved with leading.

I have put 500 rounds through my 300blk with out a crimp and not had any feeding issues to date, i suppose it cant hurt to put a light crimp but i would try with a standard seating die rather than buying specific crimp dies.

You just need to get your seating depth (back it out) and then screw down the seating die till you feel resistance and try small turns. Its more handy to have a 300blk case guage than a crimp die :)

If anyone is looking, we just had some more Hornady 300 Blackout/Whisper dies come in.

I just use the LEE dies and do the same, just turn the seater in an 1/8th turn after it touches the case mouth. never had a problem.
If you go too far you will bulge the case, don't ask how I know
