Lets see your T97 upgrades and rails

Either would likely work. Probably use a course machine screw or a self tapper if you didn't use a bolt and nut. I would probably go with a nut and bolt set up, but that's my preference. Less damage to the plastic for repeated removal and installation if you desired to do such a thing.

I ordered an AFG the other day and a Magpul cheek riser to try on my T97. Gonna try to make some shorter trigger bars to in different lengths to see if I can make the trigger pull shorter

I had the trigger assembly apart yesterday. Most of the travel is in the trigger mechanism itself and not from the bar (meaning it's pretty tight). I was kind of thinking the same thing about a shorter bar. I am a little concerned that any shorter and it can effect the reset, and possibly become a safety concern. I haven't played with it too much but there didn't seem to be room for a whole lot of difference.

I am not a gunsmith. Nor am I even remotely an amateur smith. I just like to tinker a lot. If your shorter bar idea works, that would be awesome.

Still would like to see exactly how you custom mounted your under rail

I'll post detailed pics tomorrow morning. Getting late here.

I imagine the lower forestock was removed, and a piece of rail was lined up and marked. Drill a couple of holes (a little smaller that the screws) so it can tap itself in. Voila, install grip of choice on the new rail!

^^ Exactly! Nuts on the inside

Haven't had time to do any nice photos but I think this scope matches the T97 and FTU well. Perfect sight height for a small scope and low rings like this.

Ok as promised here are the detailed pics of how I installed my AFG.
Important I used a piece of rail that came with my Troy alpha rail for my AR. In the pics you can see what looks like spacers they are meant to fit in the slots of my Troy alpha rail. I was going to sink those into the handguard but realized they were necessary to gain enough height to slide AFG on. If you were going to use a vertical grip the extra height wouldn't be necessary because you could slide it on from backside.

Bolts that came with rail slot were too short so I had to use longer ones. Will replace with better ones when I get somewhere to buy some.
