Hey All,

I'm on the lookout for a Restricted PPK, i can't seem to find out. So i sent out an email to bits of pieces and they sent me back a great step by step process on getting one. Thought you guys might find it interesting.

The usual procedure is:
1. Buyer pays the seller for the gun.
2. Seller sends the gun to us for modification.
3. When the barrel has been replaced, we verify the new status as restricted and send in paperwork to CFC.
4. Seller receives a new registration certificate for the firearm which is now restricted.
5. Buyer pays us for the work done.
6. Seller transfers the firearm to buyer.
7. When transfer is approved, we send the gun the buyer.

Next question, anyone have a prohibited PPK they want to sell :D

Cheers,

-Tony

If you want a ppk, it will almost certainly be a 32. There are .380 ppk's but they are few and very far between. A 32 would also have to have the caliber changed since 32's are prohibited by caliber (which may be why you can't seem to find one). That also entails changing or modifying the extractor and the breechface or converting to a wildcat caliber that Epp's does which necks down a 32 to 30 caliber. From what I have heard the .380 conversions have mixed success, and would of course involve added expense. A PP already chambered for .380 would be a less expensive candidate. Another option would be one of the restricted Makarovs that interammo sells

Hey,

Wow that gun looks really similar to the PPK, do you know if they're any good?

I was looking at the Walther website and it seems they still sell the .380, did they just not sell well in canada?

I did pick up a PP in 380 with a restricted barrel a while back. Because it's a bit bigger the longer barrel really doesn't stand
out as much.

Thats awesome, how do you like the way it shoots? I'm used to a 92FS and a model 29. I just love the look of the walther

I have been down the same road, and even had an opportunity at a NR barrel for cheap, but couldn't find a .380 PPK anywhere.

I would probably go with the Baikal as well. ;)

Do you think its possible to buy a prohibited PPK from the states and import it to canada and get it machined?

No

No prohibs can be imported since the FA.

That is the whole point. Not allowing any new guns, and letting the old ones be collected and destroyed when the owners die.

It is sweeter than I expected. Mild recoil (Was warned otherwise) and with the fixed barrel very accurate. Small sights,
but designed for short work. I love it.

No, no, no, no. Wrong. you can rebarrel to a 32 with zero issues. 32 is quite easily found at most gun stores as well. Where do people come up with this???

I've shot PPK's and a Makarov that belonged to 12-6 buddies. The Mak is a fair bit bigger than the dainty little PPK. The Mak is sized more like the PP.

All three are still prohibs with the original barrels but a PP would look pretty close to the same sort of nose stub with a restricted barrel. I seem to recall measuring it and figuring out that it needed 3/4 of an inch to comply with the barrel length rules.

The Mak is a lot of fun as well. I'd likely have one of the new Baikal guns other than the fact that the rounds used in it can't make the PF I need to use it in IDPA.

Note though that because it's a straight blowback operation and a fairly light gun the .380 feels pretty much like 9mm from your Beretta 92. There is a VERY good reason why there are not too many direct blowback 9mm Luger pistols.

both 32 and 25 cal are prohibited due to calibre as opposed to barrel length.

Edit: The cartridges themselves are not prohibited, you can get adapters to shoot .32 in 30/06 rifles.
I think there is a .32 carbine available also, perhaps the Scorpion if you can find one.
Or was the Scorpion prohibited too?

So I guess the 32 caliber non restricted PPKs must be fakes then. I'll remember that next time I shoot one. ####ing hell.

get a PP, looks better with the extension

Also, make sure whomever does the conversion doesnt do the pencil thin drill out and reline/chamber the barrel with a longer piece, it looks terrible

NON-RESTRICTED? As in an 18.5" barreled rifle made from a PPK? CFC refused to even talk about that with me. Tell us more!

.32 in a handgun is prohibited by caliber, unless it's one of the .32 S&W target pistols specifically exempted by make and model. .32 in a non-restricted is fine. But my understanding is that you cannot go from prohibited to non-restricted (though prohibited to antique works -- not applicable to PP or PPK though). Has that changed lately? As in the past few months?

PP/PPK .32 to .380 conversion is an epic pain, and winds up unreliable unless you do what Walther themselves did. This is written up on other threads in detail.

In the States their are new manufacture PPK's in .22, I am/was hoping a dealer in Canada would import them with fake suppressors for that full Bond look, plus making it restricted.
