Hello, im looking to buy a scope for a 7mm rm. Im looking for best bang for buck around $300, most whistles you can fit while still having great quality. Ill be doing a combination of range/out in the woods, something capable of close range but yet can take advantage of the long range caliber.

So far ive heard things about the vx-2 being a great scope, but they tend to run around 4-450 in my area.

I tried searching the forums and google, but nothing up to date or useful really presented itself, there are SOOOOO many scopes and I cant find specifics about most of them even if I did understand all the terminology of scopes. It is seriously overwhelming when you're trying to get into buying a scope for the first time.

Bushnell elite 3-9 or Vortex Viper 3-9 should be around that price range.

With all the research I have made, those two are what I have settled on, along with the new Nikon Monarch 2-8. But glass-wise it seems like it goes Elite, Viper and then Monarch... based on general internet forums research. I have looked at MANY threads and reviews.

Dont know where you are located. Dante a Montreal retailer had Bushnell 4200 3-9x40 on for 259 minus a 50 Bushnell rebate (209) that might be over now. Great scope for the money, in what most people consider a very useable magnification range.

Your choices and clarity really expand if you push the budget out to $500 range. Even at $300 if you go to your LGS and try some different scopes you should be able to find a good brand and a very clear scope. Stay away from the new brand Chinese scopes, lots of known scopes are now assembled in China but the established brands seem to hold manufacturing to a higher standard. Most known brands have very good warranties.

Western Canada, lots of bush then it opens into fields, and shooting range as well. Looking for multi purpose.

With that said ill take a look at the few scopes you guys have suggested as a starting point. Really cant push my budget to 500 just yet, maybe i can save a little longer but im hopfully getting the gun I want in the next few days and would obviously like to shoot it haha.

If you shop around and you might be luck find an used Conquest 3-9x40 for around $300 or a new Elite 4200, there are the two I will get for mixed use hunting scope if I am limited to $300.

I took a look at the ones mentioned, the redfield revolution (i think it was) seems like the best scope and cheaper than all of the rest.

I was looking at a scope comparison site, it said the revolution had an illuminated reticle, but no site lists that as an option or feature for that scope?

Redfield.

Yep. Redfield Revolution 3x9x40 is the answer here. Leupold warranty.

The Revolution doesn't have an illuminated reticle, no. It comes in a standard duplex or the Accurange reticle. I have both and prefer the standard duplex, though the Accurange isn't bad either.

The only reason I didn't pick the redfield is you said "best".. although the redfield has excellent eye relief, it also doesn't have the best glass in that category. I haven't been able to test it outside, but many reviews say it has poor low light performance in comparison to cheaper scopes like the Vortex Diamondback.

If it's still available, the Elite 4200 would be A LOT of scope for $200!

Cheers

X2 what Jay said!

The now discontinuted 4200 is almost as bright and clear as the Conquest but significant cheaper (although several places had the Conquest 3-9x40 on sale for just under $400 just a few months ago).

Dante in Montreal still have the bushnell 4200 for 250 $ and change in stock. Check and see if Bushnell still has the rebate going on and you're all set.

I was thinking about the Burris E1, which if you like the etched reticle is a pretty awesome scope at the $200 pricepoint. Competes with the vortex diamondback series. The reticle can also be illuminated in the 3-9 option.. which I haven't seen yet. But the non illuminated version was pretty awesome to me..
