CZ Shadows and Springs

Hey folks,

I recently got a CZ Shadow in trade. The gun is stock, and hasn't been shot a great deal. For my part, I will be using the pistol for target/ipsc type shooting.

I have seen in the past that people will change out recoil/hammer/main springs in these guns. I was wondering what the benefit is to doing this?

Also, can anyone recommend some spare parts to keep around that break due to wear and tear?

I have a Shadow too and use it for IPSC production. Awesome gun. Every-time I go to a match, everyone tells me I should swap out the mainspring for a lighter one. I would but 1) Does that keep you in the production division (assuming op wants to be in production too). and 2) What weight do you buy of each and where?

The benefit of lighter main spring is lighter trigger pull in DA.
For lighter recoil spring - full cycling with lighter target ammo.

Trigger return springs break and are cheap, FO rods get dull and faded or fall out - those are good parts to get.

The 13lb mainspring from CZCustom will still produce a DA first shot trigger pull weight of over 5lbs. And that is what is required by the rules for Production.

You only diddle with the recoil spring if you load up your own ammo that is running a little softer but still meeting the power factor for Production or whatever class you run. And even then you only diddle around with the spring weight if you find you're getting some stovepipes or failure to lock back after the last shot.

A couple of folks I know with CZ's have had the slide stop lever/pin break on them. So along with the springs mentioned already one of these would not be a bad investment.
 
Go with #13 for hammer and #11 for main. Play with fiber front to see which color you prefer, I like green because it covers a wider visible spectrum. Since when did u get back into CZ?

 
I run a CZUB factory 11lb main spring in my gun, but good luck finding them these days. Like hen's teeth.
 
We stock CZCustom springs for CZ-75's, we sell lots of 13Lb main spring and 11Lb recoil springs.

On my own CZ I have changed out the main spring, I have not experienced any light primer strikes but have experienced a greatly reduced double action trigger pull weight.

I am down to the last couple of each springs and have more on order from CZCustom.
 
Green FO is much easier to pickup quickly; I tried red, yellow, orange and violet as well.
11lb main spring will be way too light to set off any primer but Federal SPP.

I have two Shadows with 11lb recoil and #13 hammer and have no problem with Winchester primers or S&B, that's probably 5000+ rounds. Just ordered 10000 Dominion.

Interesting and good to know.
I'm running 13# main and had light strikes with CCI, even with extended FP.

For #11 recoil spring, what bullets are you using and what is you PF ?
 
For that spring combo, I was running 147 gr jacketed at 136 or so PF. Same combo will also run with 120PF loads.
 
my 11lb and 11.5lb mainsprings will touch off 100% of ammo available in Canada and all primers available in Canada as well. The only time I have issues is with my Steel Challenge gun, as I run an 8.5lb mainspring in it, Federal primers only for that gun. Although only S&B and CCI have given me issues in it. Winchester works fine too.

6 coils cut off? My god- I cut off 2 coils from my 13# spring, use an extended firing pin, and I still get the occasional light strike. Not a problem for me- I don't do IPSC, just slow fire target shooting.
Fwiw, my DA is 5.25#, and SA is 2.75#. I can't imagine what yours must be like- isn't the trigger spongy? What are your pull weights like?
