Shorten PAL Approval Times

I called... they said they won't be able to start processing the application until around 4 to 6 weeks due to backlog of mail.

I'm in Calgary and we receive the test results immediately after the course/test. I was advised by the instructor to send in the original test results (non-restricted and restricted) along with the application. Will these be returned to me? I forgot to ask the person on the phone about this.

Thanks.

Interesting. I am in Calgary too and my instructor said the exact opposite...numerous times, stating that the last thing you'd want to do is send in the originals and have them get lost.

ugh, I mailed my completed application to Miramichi around December 20th and they still havent recieved it. I've been checking daily and even tried calling last week (contrary to what some say, they will still check to see if your application has been received into their system) and they have no record of it. I'm starting to worry that it's been lost in the mail, but am holding out hope that it's just sitting on someones desk waiting to be opened. Still no charges to my CC.
As an aside, does anyone know what they're looking for in the "place of birth" field on the RCMP website for checking the status of your application?? Do they want the city? province? country??

Keeping my fingers crossed something shows up on their website soon, this wait is unreal!

Do you have a tracking number for the letter? I know its alot more expensive to mail it that way, 16$ or so but at least you know when it has arrived

It finally showed up on their website last week. I did my interview yesterday, and both of my references called in today. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's all wrapped up soon! :D
In hindsight I would have gladly spent the $16 for the piece of mind.

wow they must have liked what we all said, because I just checked the website and my license was issued today!
Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued.

:D

My application was delivered on Monday (Jan 27th) and I called today to confirm that they received my RPAL application. The lady was very pleasent and while it wasn't in the system yet, she did mention that they are about 4-5 weeks backlogged (which lines up with what another poster was told). It's going to be a long slog I think!

I just got off the phone with the Ontario cfo office. My application was forwarded to them the first week of January. They tell me they are backlogged and will probably be another 3 weeks until they get to my application. So expect to be waiting 6-7 weeks after interviews are completed in Ontario.

That's better then I got. I called 2 weeks ago and they stated they were 6-8 weeks behind entering the paperwork into the system let alone starting to process them.

I called 1 800-731-4000 and asked to check on my application. The lady told me it was in progress and had been sent to the CFO. Does that mean I'm on the home stretch or??? I'm in Ontario. This is just a pal. and I haven't been called. Thanks

Ya shouldn't get a call... The CFO had mine for a week, then it was almost 2 weeks in the mail.

Phoned today to do a reference for a friend, then asked if I could do my interview. She said that starting this week for bc and sask, they are now only talking with one reference, and don't need to do an interview with me. I asked if my wife still needed to talk to them, and she said nope. she said they are trying to releave some of the backlog. Hopefully that means my rpal is in the mail

Best news I've heard all week. I called recently and was told they were at a 3-week delay.

Do you know how long ago your friend mailed in their application?

My timeline:
- Dec. 29 passed safety course (RPAL)
- Dec. 31 application sent with registered mail
- Jan. 6 application received
- Jan. 28 application showed up online as in progress (checked everyday, didn't see it as "processing")
- Jan. 30 called in (extension 2533) to do interview (didn't read about how they are only doing one reference per applicant), told to get one of references call in (my choice which one)
- Jan. 30 reference called in

My 28th day will be on Monday, February 3, hopefully it will be issued by then :runaway:

PS. They recently updated the website for checking the status, much much better.

I checked online this morning and nothing. I just checked again about 5 minuts ago and my application is now online with status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Could someone please advise when I should call in to check if everything is ok with the application (no missing information or anything) and/or attempt to get an interview? How many days should I give?

Thanks for any help

....

If there was any missing info, it would not be in progress, the status would be "processing". As they are backlogged, they are doing only one interview per applicant (one of the references, your choice which one). Best to call them now and see if they ask you to get one of your references call in. When calling in, make sure you know the application number (from RCMP page) and also read my post above and call that extension.

I'm new here and i'Ve read pages and pages on this thread and this is so frustrating.. The firearm i wanted to buy was extremely hard to find so was the Conversion Kit that i also wanted, but i was able to find ONE P226 .22 and ONE 9mm conversion kit, so i bought both and now i'm just waiting for my PAL to actually be able to use'em. The P226 .22LR is still in the safe at the store waiting for me, and they told me i could bring the 9mm conversion kit back home, but this wait is extremely annoying.. some say to call often, some say not to call too often not to piss them off..

On the RCMP Website it shows that they received it on December 12th
My CC was charged on Jan. 10th
I called Miramichi on Jan 24th, they said everything was normal and i was still in the prescribed delays and my paperwork was sent to the CFO
Today Jan 31st, i call Miramichi they say that for a Restricted, the delay is 60 days, not 45
I call the CFO later on today Jan 31st and they said that everything is ok, i'm still in the 45 days period (even if it's been a little more than that) and that i should recieve a call soon ?

What do to now ? I don't care waiting for a "service" but it pisses me off when i have to PAY for something and not have it being taken care of.
If by March 1st it's still pending i'm selling my P226 and conversion kit, and i think i'll just move on .. this is getting frustrating just for a simple hobby i want to try.

Alright. It looks like my PAL got approved
