Got another chance to go out on saturday, but no luck that day as its been a little windy around here lately.

Monday the wind was a little better but not by much so we attempted to give er another go. First set was a bust. Lots of fresh tracks but couldnt find anything making them. For the second set we decided to move down the valley a km or two to a farm that we were at on saturday. The farmer put out one of his dead cows not to long ago so we thought we would check it out again.

Walking towards the bush that kind of hid the dead cow we see a coyote pop out of a little look see. We were only about 350 out at that point. We froze and glassed while the yote did its lil look around and went back for another bite or two. Got lucky there. So we decided to sneak up a bit more and give a lil howl to bring it out for a shot. I wasnt a 100% sure on the howl, but I was wrong. :) This coyote starts trotting up the fence line looking for a fight. At first I didnt see it coming up the fence line. lol At about the 100 yrd mark it stops and I wasnt sure if my partner was going to shoot or not, so I unloaded a lil 53gr sleepin pill for it. Feel right in its tracks with no twitchin or nothing. Really liking these 53gr Vmaxes so far.

She was a pretty lil one.

I was thinking of cutting up a small chunk from one of my tarps to lay them on. Thinking it might slide abit better. How do you guys get your dogs out?

I'd recommend a crazy carpet, they roll up easily and cost like $5 at Walmart. Haven't experimented with attaching a rope to one, but I doubt duct tape can't fix it.

pull behind sled, works for coyote, wolves, caribou quarters, the kids and anything else you want to pull along, just as long as there is a little snow, your in!

It'll slide better if you go with the fur...though enough to say you will notice on that kind of terrain who knows. Every little bit helps. Years of working at the local humane society and dragging/bagging thousands of bodies I know it definitely works better on concrete and stuffing into garbage bags. There isn't much I miss about that job.

Nice coyote anyways. I wanted to go out this year for the first time and none of my farmer buddies have seen any. Bastards must have heard I got my license finally.

Is that an Alaskan Guide binoc pouch? I have one in Coyote Brown...love it. The skull mask is a nice touch!

On coming across a redneck dragging his moose out by the hind-legs I said "Why aren't you dragging it the other way?"
Says the redneck "Cause I ain't goin' that way !" ..... ;)

Stuff the dog in a big nylon laundry bag. Takes up zero room and is very slippery.

Thanks for the advice guys. Im going to have to change up something for sure.

Revor: Yeah its a Alaskan Guide Creations bino case. I really like it so far. It carries my range finder, foxpro remote, monocular, 10 extra rounds, one open reed call and my mouse squeaker. Quick and easy to get to.

I use my 60' pelican sled during winter months. Throw the gear in it on the way in and easy to drag stuff out. I had a 218lb whitetail buck in mine this year (gutted only) and barely noticed the weight. I drag it behind me when coyote and gopher hunting in the snow. Couple rifles, food, blinds, chair, rifle rest... Works great.

I think a sled would be a great idea if I was humpin out a bunch of dogs (which I aint that lucky :p) and also great idea for deer season, but I like to carry all my gear.

Wouldnt dragging a sled be kind of noisy when your trying to sneak into places?

cheers

Not if your gear is in it. I throw an old blanket in the bottom, toss my gear in and it is pretty quiet. Never had issues calling while using it, but I do wait a bit before I start.

A slip knot around the top of their mouth behind some teeth, they drag pretty good.Shorten your rope. You can fasten the rope to a piece of dowel for something to get your hand around.Fits in ur pocket.
