So I finally finished off my NON RESTRICTED Valmet M71 7.62x39, conversion.

I had the barrel chopped to 18.5", crowned and re threaded, front sight and muzzle break placed back on (thx Dlask), found a sweet Tula AK47 bakelite mag and had some great help from a sponsor here on the board (who shall remain nameless, as they dont want to be named) get me an original Valmet M71 wood stock.

All I can say is this literally is the closest AK rifle I will be able to have, shoot and take it in the bush if I so desire. God bless the non restricted status of this rifle ;-)

Balance is superb and it truly is a natural pointing rifle instead of the LMG it was.

I just finished tru oiling the hell out of the stock but am reconsidering it now as I may want to stain the stock all black to match the handguard, what do you guys think keep it they way it is or stain it deep black??? It would look similar to what I did to my other M78 in the bottom pics.

Anyways here is some ####......

Bulgarian smooth side 40 rounder:

With one of my ultra rare Romanian 75 round drums:

And with his bigger brother:

Pretty badass. Must be nice. NR, bushwacking crown land with a Valmet. And a future RPD. Power to ya brother

Thanks guys, love that bakelite ;-).
I'll keep the stock as is and was already thinking about doing up a wood handguard for it. See what happens with it in a bit.

I prefer to see the wood grains so leave it , it looks great .

Hey B. That looks truly awesome, Congrats !!!

I really want to know how is the accuracy with the 18.5" barrel.. If it is same or close to Valmet Hunter, i'll be building one soon too. When will you be going to the range?

Hey D
I haven't had a chance to take it out yet as it is now. I did shoot it before the barrel chop. It was good but I didn't measure the groups. I will when I test it out this time.
Maybe this Saturday but I not to sure yet. If i do and it isn't last minute I'll call ya.

Wood Valmet hand guards??? Shhhhhhh.... don't awaken the beast... lest I will be getting a late night call from B demanding I drop everything I am presently working on because he can't sleep knowing his rifle is mismatched f:P:
Laugh2

nothing wrong with that , sounds reasonable to me , hehe.

we cant wait to see what comes next .
