22 lr ammo shortage

There is no shortage, its random fluctuation. I couldn't find yellow split peas for soup last week, its hardly indicative of a pea shortage.

nah, its clearly a yellow pea shortage, if i were you, i'd panic and buy all in sight, "just in case" besides.. who knows when we will ever need a mass amount of yellow peas?

no shortage here, but ill start hording 22lr just in case of a zombie rabbit apocalypse... 50,000 rounds should do it....

Better do 100,000 rounds just in case, Zombie Rabbit Apocalypse, now that's worth hoarding ammo for

It does appear that there may be a shortage on the way . The local Wal-Mart here has been out of all bulk pack 22lr for awhile now , but do have some small 50 packs left . I recently purchased ten bulk packs at the local Canadian tire because the firearms manager said they were having a very hard time getting 22 ammo now.......

There's the real problem in a nutshell.

In Montreal the only thing CCI that can be found are mini-mags.
Federal standard velocity are unobtanium also.
High end stuff like Eley, RWS, SK, Lapua can be found nearly everywhere.
Basically anything that can be found and is cheap my rifles hate.
Anything that is expensive my rifles love.

No, there is no shortage. Millions of rounds here. Almost any flavour you want. I am also seeing some that have never been here in years. Like cci pistol match for one.

In my neck of the woods I would have to say that there is a bit of a shortage. Sail has nothing, Lebaron didn't have much to start off with, Bass Pro is hit and miss, all of our sponsors appear to be sold out (online sales) with the exception of some ammuniton I won't shoot.

Went to Al Simmons in Hamilton and they had all sorts of CCI so I stocked up. No Pistol Match though? I'm intrigued.

I know that 22lr shotshells are basically unobtainium around here, but as for the rest, things seem pretty good from what I've seen.

22 shotshell are crap anyway, which is why almost nobody stocks them.

Unless you have a smoothbore 22 to shoot them in, in any case.

Given the number of folks that I have seen trying to get their money back on them, I am not surprised that they are not in stock. Headaches for the retailer. Easier to not have the stuff.

The 'shortage' in the States is being caused by folks hearing about the shortage, and panic buying what they don't actually need. It has also been an opportunity for the folks that do find some, who promptly turn around and rip off their fellow shooters, by reselling it at jacked up prices.

In the meantime, here in Canada, I still get ammo on sale for ~$20 a brick. Cheap and available. Works for me!

In this neck of the woods there is a shortage, local shop had nothing in 22lr for months

Sounds like they went with the wage-monkey line of "there's a shortage" instead of getting their orders in and keeping stock up. Thus creating, at least locally, a shortage, eh.

Bad business planning on their part.

ever since Obama has been in charge, the .22 ammo has gone up around $8 to 12 more for a brick which does suck. I have lots & really don't need more, but I can't bring myself to buy a 500+ brick for $30. plus dollars.

When I do see brick ammo at $20 I'm on it, haven't seen a good price for about 2 years now.

This is taken from an email I got from Ellwood Epps

"All .22 LR ammunition is in short supply at this time. Currently, manufacturers are reporting that they will likely not see this situation corrected until late-Spring to early-Summer 2014."

I can only imagine that if the retailer and supplier is stating there is a short supply that this is most likely correct.

It's called "pre-varmint season stockpiling" - wipes out inventories pretty much every year around this time. But, as has been mentioned, only with clueless businesses that don't get their inventory in order for something that happens at the same damn time every year.

So the various sponsers we have at this site, Lebaron, Sail, and Bass Pro are all clueless? I wish I was able to build a multi-million dollar business by being clueless. ;)

There is a shortage. Ask the retailers, ask the suppliers and stop denying. But at the same time I dont think there is a need to hoard tens of thousands of rounds in fear of what may come. We will be back to normal in a year or so, but I doubt the prices will ever go back down.

These Presidents, CEO's & Managers are clueless.. The issue is buying power or there just plain dumb... Most companies don't want stock to sit on the shelves long it ties up money. But if regular items are selling fast & you can't keep enough to meet demands. You would think they would be smart enough to up there regular order so they can make more money & at the same time keep your customers very happy.. I have seen this first hand with both Wholesale Sports & Cabelas.
