Least favourite cartridge?

Some of us haven't been here for the last 8 years (although I've had so much fun in the last year on CGN, that I wish I had been).
For me, it's 7.62X25.
But only because I've got a bunch of it, and I haven't got anything better than my Tok's to shoot it with.

Ahhhhh ... for me it';s the 25-20 or the 32-20 or any of those lever action old crappy calibers.
I used a 32-20 when I was first deer hunting MANY years ago and I could see the bullets limberring out the muzzle... UGH

There is but one cartridge that I have no use for, well maybe one caliber, and that would be anything in a .277 groove dia. What in Gods name possessed anyone to create such an abortion is beyond me when the 264 and 284 already existed. Trust the Americans to do something like this though, cause the other 2 have metric names and "we couldn't have that, how would we ever figure out what size they really was". Nowhere else on the planet is there another cartridge using a .277 bullet, except the 3 abortions "Made in America". Roy Weatherby even hated it and said it was his least favorite of his calibers but being a contemporary of O'Connor and seeing the influence he was peddling, he felt it necessary for smart marketing. I never liked O'Connor either !!!
Even the Brits, with their way of really screwing up calibers, never happened upon a .277. It's even dumber than a 23 caliber in my estimation...........;)

Really you have to ask yourself, if you woke up tomorrow and the 277 didn't exist and never had, would you notice? Would the hunting scene really be changed? Would there be a whole class of animals that couldn't have been taken because the .277 bore didn't exist? REALLY.............

You could say this about any caliber. There is always another one just a bit smaller and a little bit bigger.

17 win mag.
The cartridge is too big for a standard rim fire platform so it must be chambered in the larger mini mauser platforms which makes the gun more exppensive.
If you are going to spend $600+ on a gun you might as well have reloadable cartridges like 17 hornet, 22 hornet, 223 etc.

Somebody at Winchester head office probably told R&D to develop a new 7mm cartridge. And 7mm is 0.276".

MR c.fbmi You forgot the only abortion in the 270 line up which is the 6.8 sp.Down here in S. Ont. we are not allowed
anything bigger than 270 .So the most recommended
first rifle is a 270 win.It is a good enough Moose rifle with 150 gr. part. A good long range Deer with 130 gr, And really destroys groundhogs with 100 or 110 gr.hollow pionts .......hessels

I've had no use at all for a few cartridges over the years...until I get a rifle in that cartridge.

The 30-30 comes to mind. Cartridge itself looks like it was drawn out by someone who knew nothing about cartridges...big fat rim, case is too narrow to hold much powder, stupid long neck that also reduces useful powder capacity, add to that silly round nose or flat tipped bullets, and ballistics that aren't even nearly good enough to be called "vanilla".

At cartridge school the 30-30 was the kid who rode the short school bus and had to have his hockey helmet on at all times...:)

But then I went and got a 30-30, and now I think it's pretty okay...

Think of it this way, if the 277 had never been developed they would have had to make the line somewhere else, probably 7mm/284 and then you would have been able to use some useful calibers.

I agree whole heartedly, the same objective application could be applied to any cartridge and it would NOT stand up to the scrutiny. My pet peeve is the 277 bore though, and this is the one I choose to malign.

OMG ... Hands down the worst piece of non feeding cumbersome piece of sh*t has to beeee ... Drum roll !!!! the infamous .25 Winchester super short magnum ! or known as the .25wssm.

What a piece of crap ... your not even replacing the short action. Cant wait for it to get discontinued

7mm Rem Mag, it's ok if your wife wants to shoot a "Magnum" rifle. I know it is generally considered the laser beam of death but I have no use for it.
