Okay, so I have my first pistol and will be going to the range when weather permits, my question is what type of holster are people using for the range?

The pistol is a Norinco 1911A1 Government and it is an outdoor range.

Thanks, Hagar

No issues using holster at ranges I attend
Personal preference on style unless your going to be involved in a particular discipline
I am sure some ranges will have restrictions, seems further east you travel at least.....

AFAIK you're only allowed to use holsters for competitions, after you take Black Badge course.

Depends on your range rules. I use a holster at my range because I don't want to leave it unattended on the firing line while I change targets. I don't shoot IPSC/IDPA/CAS, but that's just me- what type of shooting is the OP planning to do? That will make a difference as what answers he gets.
I use an Uncle Mike's holster for my Shadow, with a couple of minor mods to make it fit better.

As I live in a community of 3500 our range is small and would usually have it to myself and as stevebc says I don't want to leave my pistol laying around. At this time I am not=in any competitive shooting, and just looking to punch paper and steel. I guess I would want something simple and comfortable.

Kydex open top thread on owb holster. Try solely Canadian, bladetech, atomic dog, grizzly outdoors, raven concealment, bravo concealment, comp tac to name a few.

You can holster your firearm at my range so long as it is not loaded and proven safe. I have the Blade tech OWB with DOH attachement. Sits lower and offset. I love it. I do not shoot competition.

If you aren't planning on super-serious competition and style is a concern, a 1911 and a leather holster go together like bread and butter. Not necessarily as practical as the Kydex ones, but sometimes style counts.

I use a reproduction US issue M1911 leather full flap. Purchased it from World War Supply. I love the feel of it slapping against my leg when I'm on the range.
maybe one day I'll be able to use it in the bush.

I prefer a leather shoulder holster myself for comfort reasons not because of some "Miami vice cool factor" like I read about here in a post. Nobody seems to be giving me any second look here in sask.
