Butler Creek 25/22 clips

I bought a new Butler Creek 25/22 clip yesterday. I put 25 rounds in in with a speed loader. and my first round jammed, the new clip wont cycle worth a damn.
I have an old used clip that came with the gun, and it works beautiful, cycles every round wihtout issue. The new clip however wont, every few rounds, I'll get 3 or 4 jams in a row.

is this a problem with the clip, or is it just a "new clip" issue?

NOT EVERYONE HAS BEEN AROUND GUNS FOR YEARS, AND SOME OF US WATCH WAY TOO MANY HOLLYWOOD MOVIES.. AND EXPLANATION IN THE DIFFERENCE GOES A LONG WAY FURTHER, THAN AN IGNORANT RESPONSE.

Easy guys… we all know the clip vs mag slandering is getting old.

OP - Butler Creek mags are notorious for malfunctioning. Reports show the the "steel lip" version will out perform the plastic or "hot lips" models, however not by much.
I have found that only loading 18-20 rounds will help with the issues. There are a few other companies making the 25 round 10/22 mags, however until a Ruger made products hits the cdn market, I won't be wasting my money. I stick to the 10 round rugger mags myself.

I did buy the steel lips, Gone Fishing in Courtenay told me I would be wasting my money on anything else.

Is there anything I can do to get the new mag to stop jamming? or should I just return it to the store??

How do you suggest I know to look for the 7 references to the differences to between clips & mags.. I dont see them stickied, and yep I probably watch way too many action flicks.
Being a beginner doesn't make me a troll, anymore that you are ignorant. Although from your HIGHLY educational post, I wonder..
 
Had the same problem with my " clip" ( grammer police go f### urself), returned to the store and I hope that you have better luck with the warranty/return of your clip than I did (year later with my clip). Is there any other clips for the 10/22 besides butler clips?
 
Probably because they don't like the ammo your trying use a round nose style and quality like Cci and you will be fine
 
Mia Copa. Polish the inner lips with 600grit, perhaps the lower portion of the breech, then cycle the action in a safe fashion, you ll get it, I had one mag that needed some black tape to provide a positive fit without play,,,,,good luck.
 
First try different ammo and hand load it!
Second try loading the mag full and letting it sit for a few days. Some mags have strong springs like the hc3r.
Third try someone elses steel lips mags, see if it's your gun or your mags that are the issue.
My guess is it's the ammo.
It would be helpful to let us know what ammo you're using. Again try hand loading, it might be the loader.
 
I have used a bunch of steel lipped bc mags. Mine don't feed federal blue box. everything else works perfectly. Try some Winchester 333 in it. They have never given me a problem. Never had to clean one. Never had to modify one.
I highly doubt you have a defective mag based on my experience. They are excellent.
Plastic or hot lips mags are garbage though. The guy in the store was right.
Did you get the bc loader or the other one?Stony point I think. I don't care for the stony point one.
 
I now have 6 of the Butler Creek Steel Lips. Every one of them jammed occasionally until i had put 100-150 rounds through them. If you're willing to struggle through that break-in period, you'll be rewarded with a 25 round magazine that is just as reliable as the 10 round Ruger. At least that has been my experience x6. IIRC my first 25 rd steel lips BC mags were a bit unreliable until after I'd left them fully charged with ammo for a few weeks. After that, and after several dozen gophers were sent spinning, they functioned just fine...
 
Have 6 butler creek mags, had to file the feed lips down as the bolt was catching on them with all 6. Other than that they have been nearly 100% reliable, no complaints here about them.
 
I fit all my BC high capacity a salt clipazines for my fully semiautomatic Ruger assault weapon. That's a 25 magazine clip in half a second. Anyways, insert an unloaded mag in the rifle and cycle the bolt to see if the feed lips rub the bolt. Compare with how the bolt feels without a mag inserted. Most likely the back of the feed lip header will catch the bolt, the top of the feed lip may rub the bolt and the left hand angle of the feed lips will usually rub. File it down in these areas until the only resistance felt is when the bolt rubs the red follower. Push the mag up into the rifle and tilt it forward, back and side to side to make sure the bolt cycles freely. This will help prevent stovepipes. Then load all the mags to max capacity and let them sit for a few days to set the spring. This will prevent an FTF where the rim of the cartridge being stripped digs into the bullet of the round below it. Then your a salt clips will run like a top.
 
I have found that BC Steel Lips need to have a couple of full magazine loads run through them before they start to feed reliably.

They also do not last forever. With a lot of use the plastic body will crack and the steel lips will get wobbly. I fixed mine with epoxy.

OP, the guys were ragging on you because the correct term for a device that holds and feeds ammunition in a firearm is called a magazine (they can be fixed to the firearm or detachable).

Clips are used to hold cartridges and to feed them quickly into the magazines of firearms. Stripper clips used in such iconic rifles such as the LE SMLE, Mauser K98 and SKS simply feed the cartridges into the magazine. "En bloc" clips are actually placed into the "magazine" or magazine well of the rifle and are left in place while the rifle is fired and generally eject when the last round is fired.

Uninformed anti gun writers and politicians often misuse the term "clip" hence the reaction to the term "clip" in a pro firearm rights forum such as this.

Mine has been very ammo sensitive..
