Stag 14.5" AR barrel shooting 5" groups at 20 yards

And I really liked this barrel... in the magical 1/7 twist no less.

It's not that, then...no chance it's the muzzle device? I'm guessing Casey would've checked it.

Casey looked at it and said it's perfectly centered and no evidence of any bullet touching the barrel when they were exiting. He did removed it when he checked the crown.

Did he shoot it?
Apparently stag arms warranty might not be worth the paper it is printed on.

Could you tell me how many companies offer any warranty of any kind on parts?
My understanding is that Stag warrants rifles that they have built, for the life of the original owner. Would you expect a lifetime warranty on an LPK, or an extractor, how about a BCG? That's just not practical. A seven year old barrel is having issues, this sort of thing happens.

My bad. I thought he bought a complete upper.

I would be very interested in getting this barrel from you if you end up getting another one. I would cover shipping costs and put a few bucks in your pocket to make it worth the effort. Shoot me a PM to discuss further if you wish.

I did purchase a complete upper which was not a complete rifle, which did not come with the lifetime warranty of a complete rifle purchase. But a M4 barrel should last at least 30k rounds in semi-auto before wearing out. If it got shot out at 15k then I can deal with it... but 1000 rounds? Let's say 1500 rounds, it's still very unusual. Again I take my AR out for 2-gun/3-gun matches about half dozen times a year.

Unfortunately, I have no document to prove my round count. But I didn't expect this to happen anyway.

I really doubt any company is going to warranty the barrel beyond manufacturers defects. I'm sure if he had a broken bolt carrier there would have been coverage but a barrel is a disposable part that wears out and after 7 years of shooting it could have 50000 rounds through it.
1000 rounds in 7 years competing in 3-gun? Really?

OP, Did the groups slowly open up or did this happen suddenly? I would just go out and buy a nice barrel, put it on and continue shooting.

I hate to be the one to say it, but has anyone else shot it? Maybe it's you...

Certainly not trying to be insulting here because I don't know you. Please don't take that the wrong way, Lol

^^+1, yep, buy a new barrel and carry on.

Which Stag said they would cut him a deal on. OP if you've lost faith in Stag, take the deal on the new barrel. Sell it and buy something you believe in. If not, take the deal and roll on.

Which part of "We can offer you assistance in purchasing a replacement unit if that is of interest?" implies that there's a deal? I don't see them selling 14.5" 1/7 twist barrel on their website as I was told these barrels were special run item...

I already had Casey put in a new barrel, just waiting for warmer weather to sight it in.

As I said I noticed it at a 3-gun match as I was hitting thin air. Like many people I don't go check my barrels between every match to make sure nothing is broken from storing it in my safe. :)

Look sometimes I have trouble hitting the right target but I think I can hit something even with my 11.5" AR with an Eotech... :p

To answer the question, the offering assistance part was the part that implied a deal on a replacement. Glad to hear you resolved the situation in the meantime.

To be clear for anyone else who is wondering:
-Complete Stag Arms rifles include lifetime warranty,
-Stag Arms Parts and Assemblies include 1-year warranty.

As stated, this upper was purchased in 2007, and is so out of warranty.

We were not asked to examine the barrel, and no mention of defect seems to have been detected by the gunsmith who did look at the rifle, so I really can't comment on why it is no longer shooting accurately. I can say that both Steve and myself run guns with the same barrels, same batch, and they shoot quite well.

Harris bipod attached to Larue adapter to Vltor monolithic upper which free floats the barrel.

Not trying to be a ####, just trying to understand - you bought an upper, then removed the barrel and put it in a Vltor monolithic upper - so the upper isn't the issue the barrel is.
