.375 Ruger....

I'm not certain which models or variations keep those chamberings as I was repeating what I had read on the American forums like the 24hr. 'fire..
The members from Alaska were loudly lamenting the fact...

yep the all weather version is gone but if someone really wants there is still some way to get one ...

Nothing against the cartridge itself but most of what I have leans towards the older tried & true cartridges of days past. With that in mind, I'd likely opt for the 375 H&H. The other reason I shy away from the 357 Ruger is because of the 'definations' of:rolleyes: Royalty placed on it by one of the main proponents of it.

You wouldn't be talking about Clarke Gatehouse, the gent who loves his Ruger Alaskan .375 Ruger and calls it the "New King"? :-D There's nothing wrong with the .375 Ruger, or the .375 Holland & Holland...unless you go somewhere remote from time to time like Africa. If your rifle makes it to your destination but your ammo doesn't, I'd be a LOT more confident looking for the old classic .375 H&H in Africa then I would be looking for .375 Ruger.

That would be the guy. Nothing against the .375 Ruger. From anything I've seen, it's a pretty respectable cartridge, but attempting to 'elevate' it to an Alice In Wonderland position of 'Royalty'?? That does nothing to enhance or promote recognition of it as a credible entity. Quite the contrary. Adding false accolades like
  • .375 Ruger, The New King
  • .375 Ruger, The Neutered King
  • .375 Ruger, The New Pink Princess
only serve to ridicule and make it a comical whipping post.

The New King of the 375's has been making lots of inroads into Africa. More than some people are willing to admit!

H&H ammo is still more widespread due to its 100 year head start, but in 10 more years 375 Ruger ammo will be all over African countries that have sport hunting. African hunters are becoming quite fond of the cartridge and the handy, affordable rifles that they come in! :)

Since you have that "crystal ball" out... can you help me pick my Lotto 649 numbers??? When I most assuredly win, I will book a three month safari and bring the "New King" along for the ride...

I would go on that safari, but I would want my .375 Ruger in one of your short custom Handi Rifles.

Picking a winner in 649 is pure luck. Picking a winner cartridge is just looking at what people want- even if they didn't know they wanted it before it existed ! :)

Hey, I bought a Makita cordless kit like that, cause it had a flashlight with a radio built in..........never knew I needed it till I saw it. But much like the 3/8" Ruger offering, it doesn't do anything better than what I already had and was just a marketing gimmick. It got me though !!!
