FAMAE SG542 - Post range reports here!

Anyone know of any aftermarket mags available for the Famae 542 or heard of any in the works?

Sorry, NO. There is a push on to get around the factory mags, but the tooling cost is just to high for the Canadian market. Unless there is a need for 6000 or more mags for Canada, this will not happen.

I am from chile, we do mandatory military service for every man 15 to 49. Most chilean men have more training then any rcmp officer here lol. We are all trained to defend and kill for our country so handling a semi auto 308 is lol childs play. Fully auto colts ar platform seem to be very popular there and when you show your military card police will salute and let you drive on. Civilians thats non military men are restricted lol not the rest and once youve done your mandatory training your no longer a civilian.

Why compare an military organization with a civilian one?

And also a lot of the info in that post is dubious. If you're in University/College/Trade School, you don't have to serve, so I wouldn't say "most Chilean men". Then there's the fact that somehow having served a mandatory conscription term makes you above their version of the FA? Puh-lease.. Also, the police and the army do not see eye to eye on civilian gun ownership. The army is highly supportive of shooting sports, while the Carabineros prefer the CFO approach.

I'm interested in an XCR-M vs 542 review sometime in the future too. I feel like the 542 will have less bells and whistles but will be a little tougher design, but really that's all guesswork on my behalf.

The CompM4S I bought for this setup is actually too high to use without some sort of cheekrest - even without the high/AR spacer.

This RSA sits much lower and I can actually have some cheekweld. Might go Micro H1 with 2moa dot...

Overall very sweet gun... can't wait to hit the range!

For some reason , these rifles remind me of an FN-FAL......a very good looking classic firearm......

my uncle is a carabinero for 35 years in santiago, my dad is a milico for 40 years,my cousins were dina and cni. i grew up with automatic weapons, helicopters 50 meters from my house and we show our ids at any police stop only to be saluted and let thru. i grew up in salinas base were my dad and moms brother were housed there when training at the busos tacticos naval base or navy seals. we have hk 36cs we have uzis, we have m16s ,shotguns, rifles ect. most chilean civilians are allowed 1 firearm for home protection and 100 rounds and as many firears as they want for sporting and hunting as long as they pass a criminial check, a doctors exam, a psychiatrist examination and then go to military to pay for the rest. But with military id there are no checks.
