A look inside the US Army’s Spectacular Hidden Treasure warehouse

Remember that ending scene out of Indiana Jones where the Ark of the Covenant is boxed up and wheeled through an endless government warehouse?

Did you know that that place actually exists?

See the below link for pictures and video of it and enjoy.

Imagine the size of their full collection, I bet they have heaps of neat gear. They have been involved in so many wars and taken control of so many countries in the past that they must have collected some very nice pieces.

I bet that if the US military put all their military collections under the one very big roof it would make all other nations collections look like beginner collections. Plus it goes without saying that they have been one of the biggest makers of military gear of the last 100 years.

That would definitely be a reason to head down to the States. Although I don't think I could swing 'Let's go look at all the America Army's kit since the dawn of the country' to my old lady very well.

For those who don't want to travel all the way to Virginia to check this out go to Ottawa and do a vault tour of the national museums and galleries. The art collection of the War Museum is around the same size as the National Gallery collection.

Interesting link but this is not a secret warehouse, it's just temporary storage for one branch of U.S. militaries massive collection. These items (as stated in the link) will eventually be on display in the new U.S. Army museum that will probably be along the lines of the Marine Corps museum but much bigger (I would think?).

I think the British might be worthy competitor. The museums in London including The British Museum house absolutely massive amounts of historical artifacts - from wars and colonies all over the world including long before the U.S. was even a nation :)

British version of the Yank collection

Your right it is not secret, (which was never implied) but it is hidden away from general viewing, which was how it was posted!

Also your also correct that the Brit's probably have a worthy collection as well, but I am pretty sure they never kept as many varied military day to day items over the years like the Yanks have. Also they used to scrap a lot of stuff that others would keep.

Anyhow here is the British version that is now moved from hidden away to public display -
