I did some searching, but it wasn't conclusive, so I figured I would ask. I am slowly...and painfully...gathering components to reload for my Savage. Ottawa is pretty much barren these days! I have some factory brass, once fired by me in the Savage, 1lb of IMR4064 powder and some 168g Hornady projectiles. I hope to place an order with Mystic soon too. I was hoping to pick up some CCI BR2 primers, but there are none to be found, and LeBaron's did have WLR primers, so I bought 1000. I have heard that there were issues with WLR primers, especially in Semi-Autos like the M14, but these are only going to be used in the 10TR. I have surplus for the Norc.

Are most guys happy with the WLR primers? Primers seem to be hard to find, local, so I figured I would jump on them. I have a few reloading manuals, but I was also curious if anyone has some loads with the same components they could share?
 
They are fine until you have one perforate at the edge.

I had one batch that blew about 6 and that was with mild loads. Did not ruin my bolt face as some have experienced.

Do a bit of digging there is lots of info out there about it.

I think I have about a hundred left and you can have them if you like as I will never use them again. Prefer Federal and have had no issues hundred of reloads later....

My two cents only.

Thanks. I thought the Federal were really soft and prone to issues too?
 
Budget shooting supplies has CCI primers, they are a site sponsor.

Wholesale Sports has Federal Primers.

I've never used the WLR piers so I can't comment on them. I prefer the Federal primers and have had no issues with them.

Thanks! I am just trying to avoid the added shipping costs at this point. If only CanAm sold reloading supplies! :)
 
I've used a quite a few WW primers, but all of mine were bought several years ago. So far I've never had a pierced primer of any kind.

I have found, though, that WLR primers seem to be about the equivalent of CCI large rifle magnum primers. CCI BR2 remain my favourite. I think you'll have good luck with IMR4064, it's always worked well for me in .308. Two other good powders are RL15 and Varget (which, for my money, is the same as 4064).

It sounds like you might be just starting to reload - if you are, one tip I'll pass along is to never go below published minimum loads. Weird and unpredictable things can start happening with too little powder in there!
 
Thanks! I have been reloading .45 for a couple years, but this is my first attempt at rifle. I neck sized the once fired brass and FL sized the rest. I am using this new lee case trimmer and I love this thing!!

I used to load match ammo for commercial applications (target rifle teams and police departments). Several hundreds of thousands of rounds. We bought primed factory new brass and specified federal match primers. At one time we could not find 40,000 Federal match primes of the same lot number, so substituted WLR. This was based on my experience that the ordinary Win primer worked well.

In testing the SD of the Win primed ammo was as good as Federal.

You are good to go. But buy a 8 pounder of powder and a case (5,000) primers so you have a common lot of components to work with.

It does. Cuts right down to 2.015". The black dial on the handle can be adjusted to get another .006, if memory serves. Mine doesn't have the added chamfer attachment, and I am kicking myself for not getting it. Mine just cuts (I can add that portion later). The cutter portion is universal, you just have to buy the "die" for your caliber.

Excellent! I will try....components are not all the plentiful, but will snap them up when I can.
