NEA 14.5 or Black Forge AR 16"

why not get the dominion arms norc AR from canam on sale? i have had norc and nea and yes i had some small issues but they were always fixed very fast and free. I now own a Stag and DD that are fantastic quality and worth the $$

Must...bite...tongue....

If you want a beater, I'd say just get a Norinco.

Otherwise, get a Daniel Defense, etc. The EE does occasionally have some pretty darn good ARs for decent prices. Just gotta keep an eye out and be patient.

DD is out of my price range. No dice. Why Are these 2 AR's junk? I understand it isn't a top notch rifle, but what is bad about them?

Haven't had a chance to play with NEA AR yet but I personally don't care about the whole shilling thing. Not right, but they were just starting out and I guess looking to hit the ground running. Short sited on their end, but to avoid them completely because of that not justified for me. For now I'm happy with my Norinco with Magpul furniture. AR is supposed to be a battle rifle; they're not supposed to me pretty just supposed to work.

84wh1, where are you located? If you are in the Vancouver area and want to give an NEA a test drive let me know. I have a 18"rifle with a serial # below 60. It had its share of issues when new, and NEA made it right in short order.

That was me. Any gun can have problems. For me it is how they deal with it. I emailed NEA and had a response within 15 minutes. The next morning I had a paid shipping label emailed to me and I sent the gun back that night for service. I am out of town for a couple weeks and I asked them not to send it back to me until I return. I'll post an update then.

Their customer service is very responsive.

I have a Norc and an NEA. The Norc is great but I prefer the nea.

That is not entirely true... a few days ago, a fellow CGNer posted groupings at 50 yards with his NEA. All of his posted groupings keyholded at 50 yards

I looked at an NEA and it was just fine, never shot it though. I bought a Windham Weaponry for $1100.00 and I couldn't be happier. great gun, well made, shoots very nicely.

Not to mention, people still buy cars from companies that produce some units that come off the line with problems. Why should firearms be different? That's what a warranty is for. If you don't like the design or the finish, to me that's a good reason not to buy a gun. But to avoid a company for an isolated poor business decision a number of years ago and because not every unit is perfect is illogical.

Thanks for the info on your NEA. I think I will be happy with the rifle so long as they offer good service on any issues that may come up. As for location, im in Winnipeg so no dice on test drive. Thanks though

Good analogy. I agree with you. I still have some time before Im going to purchase a rifle and havent 100% made up my mind yet, but I am leaning towards the NEA. I love the look and the quad rail extended forarm is just plain ###y.

For same price, can get better ARs, especially in the EE. Nork owns the $600 price point, no question.

I've read so many comments in this thread and others declaring g that brand X, usually an NEA, seems fine based on looking at it, touching it or something other than actually.... Uh, using it. Even then, is 100 rounds enough to say whether it's solid? I'd say no. there's a reason why some makes of ARs are so cheap.

Uh huh and there was another thread where someone had either a savage or a Rem bolt gun that produced ca 5 MOA groups new out of the box. So your point would be ........ ?

Anything but a NEA

That is just stupid. I have two NEA's and they work fine. I have two Aero Precision and they work fine too. I've had a bunch of other makes of AR and they all worked fine. One of my test rifles is a bitsa frankengun (you know the type of thing generally poo poo'd by the "intelligensia" here) and it runs and runs and runs no matter how much abuse it gets and how little cleaning or maintenance it has.

I have only had the NEAs for a short period of time and haven't had a chance to really abuse them but so far they seem fine. It is cool to have a CDN made rifle though. Canada should have a domestic firearms industry.

Do a search for yourself and you will find that NEA have the worst reputation in term of quality control. I can understand that the early batch had some issues but every now and then, there's a new thread popping out with bad review.

Which is true of every single consumer product on the planet. So your point would be ..... ?

When I bought a Dodge Dakota many years ago I checked them out on the internet and found pages of people #####ing and complaining about how crap this truck was. Yet we kept ours for 11 years and racked up 265,000 kms on it with little in the way of issues.

Condemning NEA for stuff that occurred three years ago seems petty and stupid to me. They have continued to improve their products and the new rifles are much different from the original ones.

I vote for the NEA.

If concerned, buy one that you can handle first.

Seriously, this thread is nothing more than a jilted lover thread, like all the rest.

I was surprised that no one in this thread asked "What are you using it for?"

If you are going to shoot CQB all Spring/Summer/Fall (and early winter) long and go through 1000's of rounds a year, then you should be a bit more concerned about the quality of the parts and warranties and such.

If you are going to plink at the range and fire <1000 rounds/year, any gun mentioned in this thread will be fine.

If you want to get into Service Rifle, and plan on shooting distance, then you might consider either a better model, or at least an upgraded upper.

The other thing that hasn't come up is that you can start with any AR and modify it as you go along. Lots of guys run the fancy new upper they just bought on their old Nork lower (sometimes a *very slight* bit of work is needed to make them mate, but usually not, and this is another thread entirely).

The main thing is to get something in your budget, and shoot it. There is no platform more customizable than the AR.

Finally, the guys that mentioned the EE are spot-on. There are lots of GREAT rifles on there currently, in your price range. Check it out.

B.
