a good red dot at moderate price

If you have astigmatism in your eyes you could try a prism scope, it eliminates the issues with a red dot, usually has an etched reticle that also eliminates battery issues, BUT it will have a definite eye relief position.

And if that test isn't enough, take a piece of paper, poke a hole in it with a pin, and look through the red dot as normal. Sucks finding out you have astigmatism.

I just mounted an Aimpoint Micro Hunter today and rather than a round red dot, I see a bunch of squiggly lines that look somewhat like a jellyfish with long tentacles. I did the photo thing with the I-pad and also looked through a pin hole in a piece of paper. The dot is round just like it is supposed to be in the photo and through the pin hole. If I had known that astigmatism affected the sight picture in red dot sights in this fashion, I would have picked up a Leupold 1.5-5x20 Vari X iii scope or maybe their little prismatic sight with the etched reticle. Yes it sucks to find out I have astigmatism.

I'm gong to try not sounding too stupid...but by prism, I suspect you mean something like the Lucid HD7? if I'm still off the ball, please ejumicate me. :)

Not stupid at all, and I hope my answer doesn't seem that way either! But I am not familiar with the Lucid product, I think it is more like a red dot but I am not 100% on that. Sorry I can't with that question.

i just picked up a sightmark red dot..the one that looks like an Eotech. comes with choice of 4 reticles. Very clear reticles...more so than my eotech's. First time i used it,.it kept turning off after each shot. I then googled it and found that the connection spring from the battery cap had issues. stretched the wire,...now works great. no issues. $90. bass pro usa

Maurice, I'm curious. how did you get a scope through the border? I'm pretty sure ITAR blocks anyone in the US from exporting firearm optics, including things like that Sightmark.

I hooped it....no one from Canada cares at the border. U can buy it up here for a few dollars more...but i hate buying stuff i can not at least handle before i buy.
Would have hooped the Gen 2 ID goggles i picked up too if i had room when i drove over the border. Lol

Just to follow up...this is pretty on the outside, junk on the inside. I can get it to stay on...shuts off randomly. I googled it...seems the connection is crappy. I fixed that part,..but it still does not work well. I contacted them,..they said to send it back...so I would have to pay shipping on a $90 sight...
