I do have dual citizenship yes. It makes it far easier when travelling to and from Oz. As for the handguns. You must it for and pass a restricted firearms licence and reference checks. Once that is accomplished you can then purchase a restricted firearm whether that be a handgun or black rifle. Once purchased it remains with the seller until ownership is transferred into your name, that can be as short as a couple of days or as long as a fortnight. Storage laws, well that depends on your interpretation. I have trigger locks and in a big heavy safe with ammo stored separate. After all this you can only transport to and from your home to the gun range you are a member of and can be used only at the range.

If I may ask, what line of work are you in? The job situation isn't the best here at the moment, and it's going to get worse as our major manufactures and suppliers are shutting down.

Wow. Wish we had handgun laws like that here. Doesn't seem to be stopping the criminals as most shootings here are committed with handguns.

Im self employed. The place to be right now is Calgary, the economy is very strong driven mostly by oil and gas. I hear Holden is shutting down in SA.

Hi all,

New member from Australia here. As someone that's quite envious of your firearms laws, and hoping to visit in the near future, I thought I'd sign up.

Glad to be here.

Welcome Mate, you'll find most people here are good value. Pity your couldn't be here in June as we have Steve Lee visiting.

Hopefully are firearms laws do not turn me into a criminal. Which is a possibility in this day and age of pot smoking and disability entitled people.

Not just in SA - nationwide. By 2016/2017, there will be no more Australian-made cars. Ford is also closing down in the next two years. Toyota will go as well. And Qantas (our major airline) is laying over 5,000 people, with more expected to follow. A lot of jobs are also going offshore.

Edit: I forgot to mention that pump-action rifles are perfectly legal here on the basic category of license. So, if you have any and can find a way to import them there shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks tenexx. I'm a big fan of Steve, he's a great campaigner for firearms here. I recall he made a video of his last visit to New Brunswich. He seems like a great guy.

Welcome to the board, I am actually in the process of trying to relocate to Australia...and am not envious of your gun laws at all. :)
Just waiting on my wife's nursing accreditation to be accepted.
