Any Threat to SKS Imports?

Guys sks are going up because of the new government. They need funds to rebuild the country. We enjoyed cheap prices for almost 3 years now.
As to Ukraine political structure. Yesterday Ukraine government signed association with EU. One of first demands was to destroy Russian made rifles and Russian ammunition. What do you think this will do to supply?
Russia is being blocked by sanctions from G8. So no export from there.
I have warned everyone and I am warning now again Sks will disappear from shelves of firearms stores if situation does not change overseas.
It is your own decision if you want to believe me or not.
Read news that were not paid by USA or Russia. Use google translate. Read news from china or some African countries. It is information war right.
Also read on how Kosovo became country and how Crimea situation is the same, but in one instance it is back by USA and whole Yogoslavia is bombed and in another instance it is backed by Russia and no one is bombed.
 
It does appear that the Ukraine military is in rough shape ; and short on money and equipment . The CTV National News had a report on how poorly equipped the Ukraine military is , and can not even supply body armour for their troops......and now that Russia is taking control of many military assets in the Crimea , the Ukraine military will have even less equipment . To look back to before the 1994 Budapest Accord when Ukraine had huge stockpiles of military weapons and a large nuclear arsenal........I bet they wish that they still had that equipment and weapons.....
 
I tend to agree with Westrifle's take on things. We've had it pretty good for a few years and while there is still a good supply on Canadian soil, it will diminish over a period of time. Since Russia doesn't export and Ukraine was the largest exporter, its not unreasonable for the market to tighten up. I'm pretty sure the piles of rifles sitting in warehouses in the Ukraine are being closely looked at as we speak, but not for export. They have other concerns right now. Until the tension between the two countries goes down, I don't think that anything will be sold. Not just SKS rifles, but Mosin rifles as well along with ammunition.

Enfields are still up and fighting in the hands of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Guns of all kinds are used when guns in general are in high demand and low supply.

If SHTF on a larger scale in the Ukraine, the Mosins may very well be pressed into service to vote from the rooftops. Not hard to scope, will work as a sniper platform as already displayed in previous wars.
 
So I went to a few gun stores today to see what SKS's I could find. First Canadian Tire, then Italian Sporting Goods, then Reliable Gun and finally Lever Arms. All the SKS's I saw at each store were in really ruff shape. It seems that stores have the bottom of the barrel left. I am still hoping to find a nice example of a 1950 and 52. So my search continues, good luck everyone.

Sounds about right. The one I picked up yesterday was from the bottom of the last crate. It was a 51 with several large chips in the stock. And that was the nicest one. I'll still treat it like gold :)

weimajack has a beautiful 1950 non-refurb for sale. Not many non-refurbs out there! His looks very nice.

Check with Wholesale Sports in Naniamo, if you can get someone to buy , and they still have stock (phone them) the two I picked up last week were PRIME ! Way better than the Vancouver stock. I am not sure about Wanstall,s in Maple Ridge .

What about the ammo? I thought Russia and the Ukraine were the biggest source of 7.62x39? If a nice SKS can still be found, will it be expensive American made ammo from now on?
 
I'm happy that I bought a lot of them in the past 3 years. I bought A lot of USSR surplus firearms ;).

It's like everything one day our kids'll say that it was the good time when SKS were avalaible at 200$. Just like I say when I see Lee enfields or M1 Garand for ridicule prices on old newspaper.......
